    At first glance, Myanmar’s 2026 matriculation exam results seem like a rare piece of good news. The nationwide pass rate climbed to 52.37%, with over 130,000 students successfully graduating. But behind the passing grades lies a devastating reality of the ongoing conflict. In this story, we look beyond the percentages to uncover the true cost of Myanmar’s post-coup conflict on education.     UN Special Envoy on Myanmar

    The U.N. Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar, Julie Bishop, addressed the General Assembly on June 19. The speech coincided with the 81st birthday of jailed State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, who’s been held in detention since the military coup on Feb. 1, 2021. Bishop raised Aung San Suu Kyi’s isolation with regime leader Min Aung Hlaing during her last visit to Myanmar in May. The ousted leader has been held in the capital Naypyidaw by the regime.
