Stealth is a monthly podcast that captures the stories of transmasculine elders who transitioned before or around the year 2000. Transitioning, for the purposes of our podcast, includes all forms of social and medical transitioning. We value the background and experiences of our transmasculine community, and want to provide a space for those of us who are often overlooked. The term “stealth” highlights the fact that for our generation we were often told to hide our past and live an underground existence. Throughout our lives, each of us has had to navigate issues of disclosure which have impacted us in many ways.     Ivan Extended

    Ivan Coyote is a writer and storyteller. Born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon, they are the author of thirteen books, the creator of four films, six stage shows, and three albums that combine storytelling with music. Coyote’s books have won the ReLit Award, been named a Stonewall Honour Book, been longlisted for Canada Reads, and been shortlisted for the Hilary Weston Prize for non-fiction and the Governor General's award for non-fiction twice. In 2017 Ivan was given an honorary Doctor of Laws from Simon Fraser University, and in 2023 they received the first Honorary Doctor of Arts ever bestowed on anyone by Yukon University. They have toured public schools solo around the world for 19 years now, using the power of a personal story to fight bullying and make schools safer for students, staff and parents. In 2024 Ivan will mark 30 years on the road as an international touring storyteller and musician. Coyote’s stories grapple with the complex and intensely personal topics of gender identity, family, class, and queer liberation, but always with a generous heart, and a quick wit. Ivan's stories manage to handle both the hilarious and the heartbreaking with reverence and compassion, and remind us all of our own fallible and imperfect humanity, while at the same time inspiring us to change the world.     Jamison Green, Ph.D. is an author, educator, public speaker, independent legal scholar, and expert policy consultant in transgender health and employment discrimination litigation. He is best known for his influential book Becoming a Visible Man, first published in 2004 and updated in 2020. This work is considered a classic in transgender literature, offering valuable insights into the experiences of trans men. Dr. Green began working for transgender visibility and rights in San Francisco in 1994 when a newly implemented non-discrimination ordinance (which he co-authored with City attorneys) placed the City in violation of its own Equal Benefits Ordinance. It took until 2000 to win on the issue, and a trans-inclusive policy went into effect in 2001. Kylar is known worldwide for his avant garde work in the LGBT and Trans rights movements. He's the founder and director of the Trans People of Color Coalition, the only national organization dedicated to the civil rights of transgender people of color. Kylar is on the board of the National Black Justice Coalition, where he served as board chair for three years. He also served on the DC Mayor's LGBT Advisory Task Force Committee, and is currently on the board of Directors for Freedom for All Americans. Kylar identifies his social anniversary to be at birth, but his medical transition, he pins at 1990, the same as one of our many guests.
