Inside the Mind of Dr. Death: Miracle Man

This episode comes out for free on 9/7, and is available early and ad-free for Wondery+ subscribers.

Former FBI agent and criminal profiler Candice DeLong examines the case of Paolo Macchiarini, the subject of Wondery’s Dr. Death, season three. Paolo was a star surgeon whose revolutionary development and use of synthetic windpipes was thought to put him on track to win a Nobel Prize. However, instead of helping the countless lives like it promised, it was actually a path to his patient’s torturous death. Candice examines how this star surgeon continued to rise even as his victims were falling; and what compelled him to continue with his deceits, even when he knew that there was no way to sustain them.

    Wondery Presents: SUSPECT

    Wondery Presents: SUSPECT

A big Halloween party at an apartment complex in Redmond, Washington. Themed rooms and costumed partygoers. But by the end of the party, one of the hosts is dead. The police look to the partiers as the prime suspects: was it the guy in the devil mask, the bank robber, the construction worker? As investigators comb through forensic evidence, witness testimony, DNA, and even consult with a psychic, they zero in on one suspect in particular. But for what reason? Host and reporter Matthew Shaer (Over My Dead Body) returns to the scene of the crime, speaks with everyone about a night that still haunts them years later. It’s a series about race and policing, mislaid justice, cutting-edge science, and the kinds of weighty choices that cops and prosecutors make every day -- choices that, once made, are difficult to reverse.

No real insight

I was excited for this podcast but there’s no real insight. I’ve learned about the facts of these cases from a YouTuber I watch (on Mondays 😉) and was hoping this might dive deeper. Sometimes it’s so base level that I’m genuinely bored. Also. I understand the need to pay for people’s work and time but there’s so many freaking ads in these episodes and they’re long as heck. Also someone who is supposed to understand human psyche advertising better help? Yikes.
