Hopefully you are continuing to try to produce the sentences yourself.  In this unit we will continue talking about "he" and "she" as well as reviewing some older material. The ways to say “he or she has to”, “he or she wants”, “he or she would like”, “he or she wants”, “he or she can” and “he or she should” are the same as the forms for “I”. First, let’s repeat the forms for “I”. I have to. Ich muss. I have to go. Ich muss gehen. I should. Ich sollte. I should go but I can’t. Ich sollte gehen, aber ich kann nicht. I want. Ich will. I want to go now. Ich will jetzt gehen. I should go but I don’t want to. Ich sollte gehen, aber ich will nicht. I have to learn German. Ich muss Deutsch lernen. So, can you guess what: “he wants and she wants” is in German?: He wants. She wants. Er will. Sie will. What about: He has to. She has to. Er muss. Sie muss. He would like. She would like. Er möchte. Sie möchte. He can. She can. Er kann. Sie kann. He should. She should. Er sollte. Sie sollte. He wants to speak. Er will sprechen. She wants to go. Sie will gehen. He would like to learn.     Guten Tag! Welcome to unit 11. In this unit we will learn some very useful adjectives and the word for "if". Don't forget to try to say the sentences out loud when your're learning. This will help you improve. Also, don't worry about mistakes! You've done very well to get this far and mistakes are part of the process. I have to go. Ich muss gehen. I have to go to work. Ich muss zur Arbeit gehen. I have to go to work but I can’t. Ich muss zur Arbeit gehen, aber ich kann nicht. What is it?  Was ist es?  I know. Ich weiß. I know what it is. Ich weiß, was es ist. The way to say “easy” in German is: Einfach. Let’s repeat that:  Einfach. It’s easy. Es ist einfach.  It’s a little easy. Es ist ein bisschen einfach. It’s not easy.  Es ist nicht einfach. I think it’s easy.  Ich denke, es ist einfach.  I would like to learn it. Ich möchte es lernen.  I would like to learn it because it’s easy.  Ich möchte es lernen, denn es ist einfach.  I’m learning German.  Ich lerne Deutsch.  I’m learning German but it’s not easy.  Ich lerne Deutsch, aber es ist nicht einfach.  The way to say “difficult” in German is: Schwierig. Again: Schwierig. It’s difficult.  Es ist schwierig.  It’s difficult because… Es ist schwierig, denn… It’s a little difficult. Es ist ein bisschen schwierig. I have no time. Ich habe keine Zeit. It’s difficult because I have no time. Es ist schwierig, denn ich habe keine Zeit.  To say: “you have” we say: Du hast. Again: Du hast. Have you?  Hast du?  Do you have time? Hast du Zeit? Yes, I have a little time. Ja, ich habe ein bisschen Zeit. Do you have time? Yes, but I don’t know when. Hast du Zeit? Ja, aber ich weiß nicht, wann. German is easy. Deutsch ist einfach.  German is easy because I speak English. Deutsch ist einfach, denn ich spreche Englisch. I think I can learn it. Ich denke, ich kann es lernen. German is difficult but I think I can learn it. Deutsch ist schwierig, aber ich denke, ich kann es lernen. German is difficult but interesting. Deutsch ist schwierig, aber interessant.  The word for “possible” is: Möglich. Again: Möglich. It’s possible.  Es ist möglich.  I think it’s possible. Ich denke, es ist möglich.  It’s not possible.  Es ist nicht möglich.  The word for “if” is: Wenn. Let’s say that again: Wenn. If possible Wenn möglich. If I can. Wenn ich kann. If I have to. Wenn ich muss. I can do it if I have to. Ich kann es machen, wenn ich muss. If you kann Wenn du kannst. If you would like. Wenn du möchtest. I can do it if you would like. Ich kann es machen, wenn du möchtest. I would like to live in Berlin if possible. Ich möchte in Berlin wohnen, wenn möglich. I would like to speak German, if possible. Ich möchte Deutsch sprechen, wenn möglich. I have time. Ich habe Zeit. The way to say: “If I have time” is: Wenn ich Zeit habe. Let’s repeat: Wenn ich Zeit habe. The German word for “if” is special and changes the order of the words a little. Did you notice? It moved the verb to the end of the sentence. We didn’t see this in the previous examples because they were too short. Let’s do another example. I do it. Ich mache es. If I do it. Wenn ich es mache. Let’s try some more. I learn German. Ich lerne Deutsch.  If I learn German. Wenn ich Deutsch lerne. I work in Germany. Ich arbeite in Deutschland. If I work in Germany. Wenn ich in Deutschland arbeite. Are you getting the hang of it?     Transkript: Der globale Handel: Motor der Wirtschaft oder Risiko für die Umwelt? Der internationale Handel, also der Austausch von Waren und Dienstleistungen zwischen Ländern, ist eine der wichtigsten Säulen der globalen Wirtschaft. Er ermöglicht es uns, Produkte aus der ganzen Welt zu kaufen und zu verkaufen. Doch während er unbestreitbare Vorteile für den Wohlstand bringt, steht er auch vor großen Herausforderungen. Der Hauptgrund für den Handel ist die Spezialisierung. Jedes Land hat bestimmte Vorteile. Einige haben Zugang zu wichtigen Rohstoffen wie Öl oder Erze. Andere haben eine hochentwickelte Industrie, wie zum Beispiel Deutschland im Automobilbau. Durch den Handel kann sich jedes Land auf das konzentrieren, was es am besten kann. So können Güter effizienter produziert und die Kosten gesenkt werden. Das Ergebnis: eine größere Auswahl an Produkten zu niedrigeren Preisen für die Verbraucher weltweit. Der Handel fördert das Wirtschaftswachstum und schafft Arbeitsplätze in exportorientierten Branchen. Trotz der vielen Vorteile gibt es auch Kritik am globalen Handel. Ein Hauptproblem sind die Umweltauswirkungen. Der Transport von Waren über Tausende von Kilometern per Schiff und Flugzeug verursacht massive CO2-Emissionen und trägt zur globalen Erwärmung bei. Es gibt auch Bedenken, dass der Handel die soziale Ungleichheit verstärkt. Unternehmen verlagern oft ihre Produktion in Länder mit sehr niedrigen Löhnen, was in den Industrieländern zum Verlust von Arbeitsplätzen führen kann. Um den Handel zu steuern, nutzen Regierungen verschiedene Instrumente. Zölle, das sind Steuern auf importierte Waren, sollen die heimische Industrie vor ausländischer Konkurrenz schützen. Das kann aber auch zu höheren Preisen für die Verbraucher führen. Um Zölle zu vermeiden und den Handel zu erleichtern, schließen Länder Freihandelsabkommen ab, wie zum Beispiel das Abkommen innerhalb der Europäischen Union. Diese Abkommen bauen Barrieren ab und fördern den Austausch. In einer immer vernetzteren Welt wird der Handel weiter eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Die Debatte, wie wir die negativen Auswirkungen – besonders auf die Umwelt – minimieren können, wird jedoch immer lauter. Es werden Lösungen gesucht, um den Handel nachhaltiger zu gestalten, beispielsweise durch umweltfreundlichere Transportmittel oder die Förderung von regionalen Lieferketten. Der globale Handel steht an einem Scheideweg: Er muss nicht nur den Wohlstand sichern, sondern auch die Zukunft unseres Planeten.
