The hosts of Let’s Make A Sci-Fi, one of The New Yorker’s “Best Podcasts of 2022”, are back in their writers’ room and this time they’re getting serious about love. Over eight episodes, Maddy, Mark, and Ryan try to balance love and laughs into a fresh, funny, and heart-felt movie script. When they run into trouble, they’ll have help from Hollywood experts, including rom-com screenwriting royalty Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You), blockbuster director Ol Parker (Ticket to Paradise, Mama Mia II), comedian Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens), as well as agents and actors, to reveal how we bring love to the big screen. And in the final episode, they’ll pitch their original romantic comedy and see if sparks fly.

Let’s Make a Rom-Com Introduces: Popcorn for Dinner
From Maddy Kelly and the producers of Let's Make a Rom-Com and This Is That comes podcasting's first audio sit-com, Popcorn For Dinner. Narrated by Ciara Bravo, the show is an audio sitcom that follows four friends in their early 20s as they try to make it on their own, despite the fact that none of them know what that looks like...at all. Packed with all the enduring elements that make classic sitcoms identifiable (yes, even the laugh track), the show invites you to laugh at both the gang’s hijinks and the format itself. Starring: Maddy Kelly, Charlie Foster, Jillian Ebanks and Ben Fawcett.

Episode 7: Grand Romantic Gestures (feat. Ol Parker)
Once you've broken your couple up, how do you bring them back together? With a grand romantic gesture, of course. But in the world of grand romantic gestures, how grand is too grand? How romantic is too romantic? When Mark's mad lib game doesn't quite help, the hosts bring in a true romantic comedy MVP: writer and director Ol Parker (Ticket to Paradise, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again). They're just three comedians, standing in front of a Hollywood pro, asking him to help them finish their rom-com.

Episode 6: The Break Up (feat. Greg Behrendt)
It's crisis time. Now that the comedians have figured out how to bring their couple together, it's time to tear them apart. To dive deep into romantic conflict, Maddy, Mark, and Ryan call up two very different experts: divorce lawyer Melanie Bragg and comedian, Sex & The City writer, and author of “He's Just Not That Into You” Greg Behrendt. The comedians then collaboratively write a scene where things take an especially sour turn.

Episode 5: Romantic Dialogue (feat. Phoebe Robinson)
The gang consult comedian, actor, podcaster, and renowned wit Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens, Everything's Trash) on how to write genuine and genuinely good romantic dialogue. Reading out their real love letters to past and present partners inspires Maddy, Mark, and Ryan on what NOT to do. The comedians fight through absolutely crushing levels of vulnerability and read aloud scenes where Greg and Catalina begin to fall in love. There's banter! There's chemistry! There's... Zeta Trigonometry!?

Everything I need in a podcast
Fun interesting guests. Light hearted, conversational style (but edited and shaped to not waste time). Great personalities with a good vibe between them. An entertaining way to learn about genre and entertainment writing and develop a healthy respect for how difficult it is.
