Ep 180 The Girl Bigfoot Took: The Disappearance of Theresa Bier

In June of 1987, sixteen-year-old Theresa Ann Bier disappeared into the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. She had gone into the mountains with 43-year-old Russell “Skip” Welch, a man who was fascinated by Bigfoot and claimed to know where the creatures could be found. Theresa never returned. What followed was one of the strangest missing-person investigations imaginable. Welch gave investigators conflicting accounts of what had happened. A campsite he initially identified was later questioned by investigators, who believed the scene may have been staged. Another campsite was located miles away, in the remote area of Ghost Canyon. And eventually, Welch gave investigators an explanation that would make Theresa’s disappearance infamous: He claimed Bigfoot had taken her. But was that really what happened? In this episode, we take a detailed look at Theresa's life before she disappeared, the circumstances surrounding her trip into the mountains, the search for her, Russell Welch's changing stories, the investigation and arrest, and the many theories that have surrounded the case for nearly four decades. We'll also explore the darker side of the story, including allegations surrounding Theresa's difficult childhood and the troubled environment in which she was living before her disappearance. Nearly forty years later, Theresa remains missing. There is no confirmed grave. No confirmed explanation. And no definitive answer to the question that has haunted her family for decades: What happened to Theresa Bier? A note about the case Some of the information concerning Theresa's childhood, the allegations surrounding people in her life, and the theories involving other possible suspects comes from later interviews, investigative reporting and secondary sources rather than officially established facts. Those claims are presented as allegations or theories, not as proven facts. Theresa Ann Bier remains officially listed as missing by the California Department of Justice. If you have information about Theresa Bier's disappearance, please contact the Fresno Police Department. 🌲 Listen. Follow. Share. Ep 179 The Women in White

There are few figures more familiar in the world of the paranormal than the woman in white. She appears along lonely roads, beside dark stretches of water, inside old houses, near railroad tracks, and sometimes in the headlights of a passing car. Sometimes she's simply standing there, watching. Sometimes she's searching for someone. And sometimes, she asks for a ride. But what happens when you stop? In this episode of Lurk, we're traveling across America in search of the mysterious women in white whose stories have become part of the paranormal landscape. From the winding mountain roads of Pennsylvania to historic Virginia homes, from railroad tracks in West Virginia to the streets surrounding Chicago's Resurrection Cemetery, these apparitions seem to share an unsettling connection to tragedy, loss, and unfinished journeys. We'll meet the White Lady of Wopsy, the ghostly hitchhiker said to wander the mountains near Altoona, Pennsylvania, a legend that may have connections to a very real fatal automobile accident.  We'll visit Avenel in Bedford, Virginia, where a mysterious woman in white is said to remain connected to the historic house long after her earthly life was over. Then we'll follow the railroad tracks to West Virginia, where another woman in white is said to appear before passing trains. We'll travel to Chicago to meet one of America's most famous ghostly hitchhikers—Resurrection Mary, the young woman in white who supposedly climbs into cars along Archer Avenue and asks to be taken home. And we'll head south to Dallas and White Rock Lake, where the story of a young woman in a soaking-wet white dress has been told for generations. In the earliest published version, a young couple encounters the woman beside the lake, gives her a ride, and discovers that their mysterious passenger has disappeared—leaving the seat wet behind her.  We'll also meet the tragic White Lady of Durand Eastman Park in Rochester, New York, a grieving mother said to wander through the night mist accompanied by two ghostly, wolf-like dogs while searching for her missing daughter. The story has become such an enduring part of Rochester folklore that a historical marker commemorating the legend was installed in 2023.  And along the way, we'll look at the strange similarities connecting these stories. Women who died suddenly. Women who never made it home. Women still searching for someone they lost. And women who seem to be repeating the final journey of their lives again and again. Are these spirits trapped by the places where they died? Are they searching for the people they left behind? Or are they waiting for someone to finally stop and give them a ride? There are plenty of theories—but there's only one way to decide what you believe. So turn down the lights, watch the road ahead, and whatever you do... If you see a woman in white standing alone along the roadside, think twice before you stop. 👀 Have You Ever Seen a Woman in White? Have you ever experienced something you couldn't explain involving a figure, apparition, or mysterious person on the side of the road? Or maybe there's a White Lady legend from your hometown that we didn't cover in this episode. We want to hear about it. Drop your story in the comments or send it to Lurk. Ep 173 Ghosts and Curses of Bhangarh Fort

Nestled at the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, India, the ruins of Bhangarh Fort have earned a reputation so chilling that visitors are legally forbidden from entering after sunset. Declared one of the most haunted locations in the world, this 17th-century fort is wrapped in legends of curses, obsession, and restless spirits. In this episode of Lurk, we explore the rise and fall of Bhangarh Fort—from its royal origins under the Kachwaha dynasty to the eerie silence that now blankets its temples, palaces, and marketplaces. Locals whisper of shadowy figures, disembodied screams, sudden drops in temperature, and an overwhelming sense of dread felt by those who linger too long. At the heart of the haunting are two enduring legends:  • A powerful curse laid by a holy ascetic after his land was violated  • A sorcerer whose obsession with a princess may have doomed an entire city We’ll examine how these stories intertwine with historical records, why the Archaeological Survey of India enforces strict nighttime bans, and what modern investigators and visitors claim to have experienced among the ruins. Is Bhangarh Fort truly cursed—or is fear itself the most powerful force haunting its walls? Press play, and step carefully. Some places don’t like to be remembered.
