A weekly primer that helps the majority of Americans who voted for progress talk some sense into their friends & family. Co-hosts Jason Kander and Ravi Gupta draw on their experience winning progressive campaigns in red states to give you the tools necessary to combat the latest in misinformation, propaganda, and whatever your right-wing co-worker saw on Facebook.
The Chappelle Controversy
Jason and Ravi are joined for the first time by Majority 54 producer Edie Allard to discuss the pop culture controversy dominating the news: Dave Chappelle's Netflix comedy special, "The Closer." They discuss why the special is so controversial, the true meaning of the term "TERF," the limits of free speech, and whether comedy should be given special considerations. Plus, they respond to problematic comments from The Right about Mayor Pete's parental leave and revisit the Ivermectin conversation.
The Cost of Racism
Heather McGhee, author of "The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together," joins Jason and Ravi to talk about her book, her conversations with prejudiced Americans, and how we can reframe the discussion about systemic racism and prosperity. At the top of the episode, Ravi and Jason break down the latest in the infrastructure debate on Capitol Hill, and how the NFL firing Jon Gruden plays into the Republican narrative about cancel culture.
Whistleblowers feat. Lt. Col. Vindman
This week is all about whistleblowers. Jason and Ravi kick things off with the Facebook whistleblower's testimony and ponder what's next for the social media giant. Then, we're bringing you an interview from the Texas Tribune Festival with Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman. Vindman came to national attention in 2019 when he testified before the United States Congress regarding the Trump-Ukraine scandal. Vindman is the author of "Here, Right Matters".
The National Debt Blame Game
Jason and Ravi break down the many debates on Capitol Hill -- including the national debt. How should we contextualize the issue and discuss it with people still on the fence? Plus, they address the far-right assertion that the vaccine mandate is "fascist," and that dems are the "ugliest, smuggest bullies in the world."
A New Perspective on Climate Change
Climate change is such a huge threat, it can be hard to truly visualize its impact. This week, we're proud to share the first episode of As She Rises, a new Wonder Media Network podcast using poetry and the voices of BIPOC to contextualize the true effects of climate change.
This episode of As She Rises visits the land currently known as Louisiana. Poet Jerika Marchan reads from her collection “SWOLE,” recounts living through Hurricane Katrina, and tells us why she'll stay in Louisiana as long as it will let her. Colette Pichon Battle, founder and executive director of the Gulf Coast Center for Law and Policy, advocates for structural shifts towards ecological equity and climate justice in communities of color on the frontline of climate change.
Vaccine Mandates feat. Swollen Testicles in Trinidad
Negin Farsad, comedian and host of the podcast Fake the Nation, joins the show to discuss vaccine mandates and Tucker Carlson's recent obsession with Nicki Minaj's cousin's friend's swollen testicles (yes, this is real). Plus, more nefarious activity at Facebook and a refresher on civil disobedience.
Please add more info to episode description
I like the show a lot but would like to see more info in the episode description about the topics that will be discussed. Because that info is not specific I often find myself skipping to other podcasts that have more complete descriptions. I wish I could listen to everything but time is limited! Thanks for considering this.
This week’s podcast
I get what you are saying regarding 1/6, but I am so angry that this commission was not agreed upon especially since this is Memorial Day weekend. The majority of those people at the Capitol will get away with this and it has already been suggested to try again. I used to admire people in Congress but not now. I will never vote for a GOP person again.
Love the show
Keeps me sane.
