100 episodes

This is simply me reading stuff. "Stuff" being poems and literature and essays and letters. And I'm also talking and praising and laughing and almost crying and hating and living and dying and loving and some other stuff. I try to keep this under 10 minutes because I have a deep fear of boring people.

My favorite podcast

This review is long overdue, but I think I am choosing to write it now in hopes that it will conjure a new episode of Me Reading Stuff (no pressure though). After stumbling upon This podcast, it pretty much immediately became my new favorite. Robyn is so charming, down to earth, and disarmingly funny, not to mention her outstanding taste in literature (Mary Ruefle, Ann Carson, Lydia Davis, and Eliot Weinberger to name a few). This winter I had to drive home from the grocery store in the middle of a horrendous snow storm, and I swear, Robyn’s calming and assuring voice was the only thing that kept my hands steady and me and my Hyundai Elantra from sliding into a ditch. I could go on, but I’ll just say thank you Robyn for being so generous to your listeners. I look forward to the next edition of Me Reading Stuff.

The kindest.
Look. If you’re looking to peer into the crevices of poetry——learn its lurid or livid details, its minutiae of craft and draft and afterthought, its compendium of facets——this is not the podcast for you. This is the podcast for those who Adore poetry. This is where you come to smile. Come to relax without your laces so tightly wound. Come to eat Fritos even though you pretend to your friends that you hate them. Come to feel uncannily home. Son of god and ice cream cones, I enjoy this podcast. It’s like a blog, but it’s like a phonecall, but it’s like having a typewriter, but it’s like being a mirror in a locked ward, but it’s like playing with shambolic cats.

P friggen S!
Do you know very little about poetry and wish you knew more? Listen!
Do you know very much about poetry and wish you didn’t? Listen!
This space is so low-pressure that clouds pile into it. Holy dahlias, I say.
Come! Come hydrated!
Robyn is either ninety or nineteen and that’s pretty cool!

Me listening to Robyn

I absolutely love Me Reading Stuff. I look forward to new episodes as soon as I’ve listened to the last one. I’m in it not just for the literature, but for Robyn. She is kind, warm, open, funny, and honest, and what she reads on here has greatly inspired my own reading list. She is a breath of fresh air, and so is this podcast! (And she’s an amazing artist, obviously ❤️)
