A looong time before Alyssa Dumas had her episode on this show, she told me to check out Bre’s podcast, and I did. Loved it, then lost track of it during the break Bre took over the summer in 2022, but recently picked it back up and have been catching up on episodes here and there. I don’t normally skip around or listen out of order, but the other day I did, and — of course! — a weirdly freaky, serendipitous thing happened. I picked an episode kinda at random, the one on Being Open To Receiving, not really knowing what to expect, and oh. MAN. It got into hyper independence, and it felt like Bre was talking directly to me, pointing out an issue I didn’t want to admit I had. I needed to hear it.
I’ll tell ya. Sometimes Bre’s words might feel like she’s targeting you. Like me, you might get a little prickly at that, might feel slightly uncomfortable. But the discomfort is a sign she’s onto something and her message is for you! That you need to hear it and have some work to do! That said, there are also plenty of times Bre’s podcast feels zen and comfy. It’s a good podcast to listen to when you need some chill or to be reminded where and how to ground yourself or reset into a good mental place. When you’re already feeling EXTRA good and ready to learn something new or tackle something else, Bre’s podcast is still a great place to come; there’s always something neat to tune in on. Even if you’re like, “OMG Bre no, WHYYYY have you joined the aya-whatsa bandwagon alsjalkgjs STAHP” because that ain’t your jam, at least you know Bre is gonna talk about it openly, intelligently, and have some really fascinating things to say that might shift your own judgey McJudge-face opinions. Who else is gonna tell it like she is?!
Bre’s episodes show a talent for conveying difficult-to-grasp spiritual and emotional concepts in a manner that is understandable and that hits just right for a wide audience, effortlessly walking the line between sounding too woo-woo and being too rational or logical. That balance — and her willingness to call herself out and acknowledge if she strays from it or swings too far in one direction — makes these episodes accessible and makes it easier to trust Bre as the speaker. If she messes up, she’s the first to admit it and correct, and that willingness to get vulnerable, rethink, and redirect helps show us all that we can do it, too. It inspires compassion because it helps us see that even the gurus are only human — and this does not detract from her authority or the respect we are willing to give her, only adds to it.
We’re all very lucky Bre is sharing her time, thoughts, and energy. The best thing we can do to thank her is probably to think hard about her content, apply it, and slowly improve our own lives! I know I’m trying to. And I know Bre says she reads all her reviews… so Bre, this is directly for you: It absolutely freaks me out that you say you read every single review. That’s because I’m an actor and writer, and in my field, it’s hammered into our heads that you NEVER. READ. THE COMMENTS. OR REVIEWS. Because they’ll get into your head weirdly whether they are good or bad, and you’re not supposed to listen to every shmuck on the internet with an opinion about your work. I literally WORRY for you every time you’re like, “I read these things!!” I dunno bro, have you considered a more formal feedback form or questionnaire you can make people fill out if you want to know how you’re doing for your audience?! That said, I’m mostly teasing and sharing and not actually trying to tell you what to do. (Because I don’t expect or think you should listen to random shmucks on the internet!!! ROFL.) Please just keep doing you, as that’s what we all listen for — but I hope all your reviews are stellar and enlightening in a good way and continue to be useful for you. I wish you the best. Thank you for all you do. I will never forget that a couple years back, you took the time to answer a long email from me when you aren’t Dear Abby and you have a life and a podcast to run. You continue to deserve good things, and I’m sure more are on the way to you! Rock on!!
