    Climbing Out Of The Darkness

    Climbing Out Of The Darkness

Today we’re really going to dive in, my friend. I want to talk to you about what it means to start taking responsibility for the role you play in your own suffering, and how mindbody resilience work is an act of love and compassion toward ourselves. I’m going to get really vulnerable and share about one of my lowest points in my journey, how I pulled myself out of the darkness, and how it was the catalyst to me learning how to thrive.
We’ll talk about cultivating self awareness, and the number one mindset that often sneaks into our minds and gets in the way of accessing our empowerment. That’s right, we’re gonna talk about victim mentality, what it is, what it is not, and destigmatize it.
I’ll give you tips on how to identify when victim mentality has snuck into your perspective on chronic illness, and give you an exercise you can use as the first step to letting it go. Note: this episode includes a discussion about suicide ideation.
Your assignment for this week is to take the role of the watcher. Become a non judgemental observer of your thoughts and feelings. Notice them, acknowledge them, then let them pass.

    Growth Mindset For The Win!

    Growth Mindset For The Win!

Today we’re talking about the next step in getting unstuck–and that’s adopting a growth mindset!
This is where things get exciting–the process I’m going to teach you today can be really fun and rewarding. I’m going to give you a three step process to shifting your worldview by adopting a growth mindset, and some neuroscience behind why it works.
First, defining mindset: a mindset is a set of beliefs and attitudes that you have about the world that influences the emotions you feel and the actions you take in response. Most of these were developed in childhood, and need to shift as you grow and experience life.
Imagine that your mindset is like a garden. Here are 3 steps to cultivating a growth mindset:
Become the watcher.Become the detective. Become the cheerleader.
Your brain is always trying to conserve energy, so the changes won’t happen on their own. Notice the wins, prioritizing process and progress and congratulate yourself for that. Discover the power of “yet.”

    Mindbody Resilience in the Making

    Mindbody Resilience in the Making

Autumn is my favorite time of year. The sun is shining and there’s a crispness in the air, but I’ve had a challenging week. With all the work I’ve been doing and all the ideas flowing through my mind, my sleep has been disrupted and I managed to seriously throw my back out just from sleeping in weird positions. Managing the acute pain from that and still trying to get my work done has been a challenge.
However, I have found that I’ve built a resilience that allowed me to heal, rest, reflect, and still get things done. Resilience is the ability to navigate, adapt, and learn from adversity and challenging circumstances. It's also the ability to maintain and return to a baseline that is both emotionally and physically functional.
Resilience is acceptance. There will be challenges, and they are natural and expected.Resilience is intentional love and acceptance of yourself.Emotional and physical resilience work together to form mindbody resilience.
Mindbody resilience is the combination of your body’s natural physical resilience and your intentional emotional resilience that you can cultivate. Together they create a positive feedback loop that supports each other.
In this episode, I will teach you some basics for how to build your emotional resilience and start to rewire your brain’s stress response.

    How to Get Unstuck

    How to Get Unstuck

Something that I find really interesting about humans is that we crave newness and Novelty but we're also really scared of change and uncertainty–it’s a huge contradiction. What I love about thought work is that we get to observe those contradictions and choose what we want to do about them. We want our life to be different, but we don’t want to take the action necessary to create change.
When you feel stuck, your life is in a state of stagnation–you’re not growing, you’re not trying new things, you’ve gotten comfortable with the status quo and aren’t motivated enough to really shift it. The #1 reason people get stuck is that they don’t know how to manage their relationship with discomfort. You get to choose between the discomfort of being stuck and the discomfort of growth. This topic is something that’s discussed a lot in personal growth and success, but I think it’s an especially juicy topic for those of us who live with chronic medical conditions. That’s because our circumstances and medical conditions are a reliable and constant source of discomfort, so we are more familiar with being uncomfortable than your average bear. You might be burnt out by all the discomfort you’ve experienced and just want to be done with it. If that’s how you’re feeling, then this episode is even more relevant for you, because the only way to get relief is to shift the way you perceive and think about this topic.
Get intentional about doing the things that your future self will thank you for. Get out there this week and do something uncomfortable on purpose! Let me know how it goes by sending me a message on Instagram at @mischadelaney.

    Unlearning Perfectionism

    Unlearning Perfectionism

Today I want to talk to you about unleashing radical wellbeing by unlearning perfectionism. If you’re feeling stuck and want to make progress in your life, make sure you pay attention because today’s conversation might just be exactly what you need to hear to start breaking free from perfectionistic thinking. Many of us have bought into the fantasy that perfectionism will keep us safe. But in reality, perfectionism is a flimsy armor at best, it’s a mask that gives a false sense of safety.
Perfectionism is how we try to avoid and minimize shame, judgment, and blame. I think this comes up as a coping mechanism with chronic illness often because we are encountering both external and internalized ableism. We associate health with being good and sickness with being bad. Our society not so subtly teaches us to believe that health is something that is earned through discipline and being a good person. And as a result, if someone is unhealthy or disabled, it must be a result of their own failing and lack of effort. And so we turn to perfectionism in an attempt to reduce the shame of internal and externalized ableism. We hope that if we follow the rules perfectly, we will earn our health and be in good standing with ourselves and others once again. I’ll give you some specific examples of how perfectionism can show up in direct relationship with chronic illness. I’m going to give you two examples so you can start looking for it in your own life, and how to use thought work to begin unlearning perfectionism.

Fantastic tool for those living with chronic illness!

Wow this podcast! Production quality is through the roof high!

The narration style is really nice. The host sounds very natural as she takes you through her content.

The host, Mischa Delaney, is quite courageous to be sharing extremely intimate emotions and feelings related to her ongoing relationship to chronic illness. She is so brave to not only take on a podcasting project of this scale but also to be sharing those inner feeling/emotions with a global audience of strangers. I commend her bravery.

I suspect and sincerely hope this podcast will reach a large audience, and improve their daily living. Good on Mischa for selflessly making a difference in people’s lives, even when most of the time she may not even know it.

Voice of experience… Practical, accessible, and enjoyable content.

This podcast is a pleasure to listen to AND it is full of really helpful info. I’m in the middle of a chronic pain and chronic illness journey and have found Mischa’s down-to-earth approach to wellness so empowering. She’s the real deal and is also really smart. I can feel my mindset shift with every episode I hear. Also, it’s just well-produced and gracefully approaches tough issues. Today is a better day because I heard this podcast.

Powerful and relatable

As a person who has struggled with chronic pain and illness for many years and sought wisdom and support from so many different places, I have found this podcast to be so powerful both because the advice is succinct and practical and because the host’s own perspective is so relatable and honest. Too often podcast hosts hold themselves up as gurus and it can be hard to relate to their perspective. This podcast is a breath of fresh air for anyone for support on their journey out of chronic pain.
