More Movement Please

Famous Ashley Grant

I walked into my first Zumba class and lasted 15 minutes before I had to leave because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do a single jumping jack. I couldn't hold a plank. I was using 5-pound dumbbells and calling them my "big weights." That was August 2023. Today? 600+ group fitness classes. 26 pounds down. I'm using 20-pound dumbbells, taking multiple classes in a day, and chasing the high that comes with working out and moving more every chance that I get. I'm Famous Ashley Grant, and More Movement Please is a fitness podcast for women over 40 who are done waiting to feel stronger. Think of it as your fit after 40 survival guide, minus the unrealistic advice and the influencers who make everything look effortless. I record most episodes from my car on the way to and from the gym, so they're quick (5-10 minutes), honest, and easy to binge. Think of me as your workout buddy who keeps it real. This show is part accountability, part education, part inspiration. I talk about beginner fitness tips, gym motivation, what to do when you sleep through your alarm, why most fitness influencers are full of it, and how small lifestyle changes beat crash diets every single time. Sometimes I bring on guests — like my YMCA instructor Rhonda Goode, who told me the thing that changed everything: "Everyone is busy, but it's a choice to schedule exercise just like anything else." The goal isn't a number on a scale. It's getting strong, feeling better in your body, and building a community of people who believe they deserve to move. I want this to be more than a podcast. I want it to be a movement of movement. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes weekly. Onwards and upwards, friends. Have you worked out today? Real Talk on Weights, the Scale, and What a Full Week of Working Out Actually Looks Like

She lifted the 20-pound dumbbells and didn't die...and that's just one of the wins Ashley is unpacking in this listener Q&A. From what a real week of workouts looks like after 280+ days of consistency to her honest, complicated relationship with the scale, this episode gets into the stuff people actually want to know. Ashley talks non-scale victories (including a wedding ring that hadn't fit in a decade), why she dialed back from 22 hours of exercise a week to 13, what the people in her life think about how much she works out, and what she'd tell anyone who keeps saying they'll start on Monday. Spoiler: don't wait. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? Visit famousashleygrant.com/feedback or famousashleygrant.com/fitness to send a voice note or connect with Ashley directly. Your Fitness Doesn't Have to Take a Vacation When You Do

Packing your bags doesn't mean packing in your progress. A Letter to the Version of Me Who Was Afraid to Start

Two years ago, Ashley was terrified to walk back into a gym and convinced that dieting was the only option. Now, 280-plus days into her fitness commitment, she's "writing a letter" to that version of herself and it might be exactly what you need to hear today. From lifting 3-pound dumbbells to reaching for the 20s, she gets honest about the pain, the cravings, the moments she wanted to quit, and why she's so glad she didn't. If you've been waiting for the right moment to start moving, this episode is that moment. Have you worked out today? Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? Drop It, Keep It, Add It: A Trainer's No-Guilt Approach to Eating Better

What if eating better wasn't about cutting everything you love, but about knowing what to drop, what to keep, and what to add? Personal trainer and lifelong bodybuilder Virginia Kinkel shares her Drop Keep Add framework, and it might be the most realistic nutrition approach you've ever heard. Virginia breaks down how women over 40 can build muscle, reduce fat, and eat in a way that actually fits their real life, not some idealized version of it. Ashley reacts in real time, fresh off a week of way too many sweets and some unsolicited commentary from people in her life about what she should and shouldn't be eating. This episode is equal parts practical and personal, covering the 80/20 principle, strength training for women over 40, why deprivation backfires, and why giving yourself grace is not the same as giving up. If you've ever felt guilty for eating like a human, this one's for you. Want to share your story or give feedback on the show? The Shoe Update: Why I Went With Asics (And Why I'm Still Looking)

If you've been waiting for an update on my shoe saga, this is the episode for you. I finally landed on the ASICS Women's NOVABLAST 5 shoes after a mad dash to replace a pair that was falling apart, and I'm spilling all the details on why I made that call fast, and why I'm not done shopping yet. Turns out being incredibly hard on footwear means you need a plan before urgency takes the wheel. I'm breaking down what I loved about the Asics, why I'm still curious about the Brooks Ghost and the Brooks Adrenaline, and why I'm fully prepared to become a shoe guinea pig in the name of finding the best workout shoe out there. I also have some exciting personal news to share: my husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary at Gen Con, the largest tabletop gaming convention in North America, and it is going to lead to some very fun fitness content in the coming episodes. Whether you're a fellow nerd, a fitness newbie, or someone who just wants to stay active while traveling this summer, you're going to want to stick around for what's coming. Stop Making Excuses and Start Making Appointments With Yourself

You had the wrong outfit. You ate too big of a breakfast. You woke up five minutes late. Sound familiar? If you have ever talked yourself out of a workout with reasons that wouldn't hold up under any real scrutiny, this episode is going to hit close to home. Ashley gets real about the mental gymnastics she used to do to avoid the gym and how she completely flipped the script. Now she blocks her workout classes in her calendar like client appointments because, for her, that is exactly what they are. If you are still treating your workouts as optional, this episode will give you a new way to think about showing up for yourself, one calendar invite at a time. Forget the Scale: Why Celebrating Small Wins Is the Secret to Staying Consistent

Painting your toenails used to be a workout. Now it's just... the average Monday. That's a milestone worth celebrating, and Ashley Grant is here to tell you why tracking wins that have nothing to do with the scale might be the thing that actually keeps you moving. In this episode, Ashley gets real about being a self-described pessimist who is actively learning to flip the script, and why that mindset shift has been the secret weapon behind 270+ days and 550+ workouts. She talks about the moments that don't show up on any fitness app but hit differently anyway, like getting up a flight of stairs without stopping, or reaching your feet without a whole production. If you've been waiting for permission to celebrate how far you've come (or to just get started), this is it. Your body is stronger than you think. Come find out why that matters.
