More Movement Please

Famous Ashley Grant

I walked into my first Zumba class and lasted 15 minutes before I had to leave because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do a single jumping jack. I couldn't hold a plank. I was using 5-pound dumbbells and calling them my "big weights." That was August 2023. Today? 600+ group fitness classes. 26 pounds down. I'm using 20-pound dumbbells, taking multiple classes in a day, and chasing the high that comes with working out and moving more every chance that I get. I'm Famous Ashley Grant, and More Movement Please is a fitness podcast for women over 40 who are done waiting to feel stronger. Think of it as your fit after 40 survival guide, minus the unrealistic advice and the influencers who make everything look effortless. I record most episodes from my car on the way to and from the gym, so they're quick (5-10 minutes), honest, and easy to binge. Think of me as your workout buddy who keeps it real. This show is part accountability, part education, part inspiration. I talk about beginner fitness tips, gym motivation, what to do when you sleep through your alarm, why most fitness influencers are full of it, and how small lifestyle changes beat crash diets every single time. Sometimes I bring on guests — like my YMCA instructor Rhonda Goode, who told me the thing that changed everything: "Everyone is busy, but it's a choice to schedule exercise just like anything else." The goal isn't a number on a scale. It's getting strong, feeling better in your body, and building a community of people who believe they deserve to move. I want this to be more than a podcast. I want it to be a movement of movement. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes weekly. Onwards and upwards, friends. Have you worked out today? Why Strength Training Now Could Save You From a Broken Hip Later

What if the exercises you skip today are the reason you can't get off the floor at 70? Chiropractor and strength specialist Dr. Matt Tanneberg breaks down exactly why muscle strength and balance training aren't optional as we age, they're what keeps you upright, steady, and able to catch yourself before a fall turns into a fracture. In this episode, Dr. Tanneberg explains how single leg exercises, yoga, tai chi, and qigong build the coordination and stability that protect your joints and bones for the long haul. He also breaks down what's actually happening inside your body when you strengthen your tendons and ligaments, and why that "clicking" or achy joint feeling often traces back to weak connective tissue you can train. This one will change how you think about every workout you do from here on out. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. Real Food, Real Muscle: A Fitness Coach's Take on the GLP-1 Movement

Everyone's arguing about whether GLP-1 medications are good or bad. Corry Matthews says that's the wrong question entirely. In this takeover episode, the 25-year fitness veteran and NPC bodybuilding promoter breaks down what actually matters for women in perimenopause and menopause, whether they're using medication or not: muscle, strength, real food, and habits that hold up for the next twenty years. Corry shares what she's seeing in her coaching practice, why so many women have swapped real meals for protein bars and shakes, and why no medication can build the foundation your body needs long term. Two Extremes That Make Pain Worse (And What To Do Instead)

Think avoiding pain or pushing through it are your only two options? What if we told you both approaches backfire, and the real answer is something else? In this More Movement Please takeover episode, physical therapist and pain science educator Jen Uschold breaks down why movement matters so much for people navigating chronic pain. She explains the two extremes that tend to make pain worse (total avoidance and the "no pain, no gain" mindset), and introduces pacing and graded exposure as the middle path that actually helps your nervous system calm down. Jen shares how something as small as one or two minutes of walking can be a real starting point, plus a story about a client who went from that tiny first step to hiking across three continents. If you've ever felt stuck between doing nothing and doing too much, this episode might just change how you think about moving your body. What Babies Know About Movement That We Forgot

Babies never worry about how their bodies look. They just eat when they're hungry, stop when they're full, and move because it feels good. In this episode, Ashley shares a voice note from Shirley Billigmeier, founder of Energetics, who breaks down why we're born knowing exactly how to listen to our bodies, and how life slowly teaches us to ignore that wisdom. Shirley talks about trusting your own signals over outside noise, why nutrition research keeps flip-flopping, and how reconnecting with your natural instincts can bring the joy back into eating and moving. Ashley adds her own take on how small daily choices, like what you pack for a road trip, train your brain toward better habits over time. If you've ever felt disconnected from your own hunger, fullness, or desire to move, this one is for you. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. Your Brain on Movement: Why It's Not Just About Your Body

What if a real benefit of movement has nothing to do with your body? Fit-ology founder Jessica Covington joins More Movement Please to explain why movement is actually brain care, boosting focus, mood, and motivation in ways that have nothing to do with changing how you look. Listen as Jessica breaks down the connection between movement and the brain's dopamine and motivation networks, and why even one minute of moving can shift your mental state before a hard task. She shares her method for pairing movement with affirmations, why consistency matters more than intensity, and how showing up for small movement wins builds real self-trust over time. If you've ever skipped a workout because you didn't have time for "real" exercise, this episode will change how you think about movement completely. How Judgmental Fitness Content Hurts Beginners (Even When It's Not About Them)

Ever wonder why online fitness spaces can feel so judgmental, even when all you're trying to do is move more? In this episode, guest host Domenic Angelino, who lost over 130 pounds and now holds two master's degrees in exercise science and psychology, breaks down a side effect of toxic fitness culture most creators never think about. Domenic explains how hostile, status driven fitness content doesn't just affect the people watching it directly. It trains people to bring that same harsh energy into other fitness spaces, comment sections, and conversations, making the whole online fitness world feel less safe for beginners. This episode is part of our Take Over series while Ashley steps back to build out the More Movement Please community. Tune in for an honest look at how creators, often without meaning to, shape whether fitness feels welcoming or intimidating for the next person walking through the door.
