More Movement Please

Famous Ashley Grant

I walked into my first Zumba class and lasted 15 minutes before I had to leave because I couldn't breathe. I couldn't do a single jumping jack. I couldn't hold a plank. I was using 5-pound dumbbells and calling them my "big weights." That was August 2023. Today? 400+ group fitness classes. 26 pounds down. I'm using 15-pound dumbbells, taking multiple classes in a day, and chasing those 20-pounders that keep haunting me from across the weight rack. I'm Famous Ashley Grant, and More Movement Please is my fitness podcast — a digital diary from a woman over 40 who got tired of wishing she was stronger and finally did something about it. I record most of these episodes in my car on the way to and from the gym, so they're quick (5-10 minutes), honest, and easy to binge. Think of me as your workout buddy who keeps it real. This show is part accountability, part education, part inspiration. I talk about beginner fitness tips, gym motivation, what to do when you sleep through your alarm, why most fitness influencers are full of it, and how small lifestyle changes beat crash diets every single time. Sometimes I bring on guests — like my YMCA instructor Rhonda Goode, who told me the thing that changed everything: "Everyone is busy, but it's a choice to schedule exercise just like anything else." The goal isn't a number on a scale. It's getting strong, feeling better in my body, and building a community of people who believe they deserve to move. I want this to be more than a podcast. I want it to be a movement of movement. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes weekly. Onwards and upwards, friends. Have you worked out today? What happens when someone at the gym calls you out for complaining, and you can't stop thinking about it four days later? No Pills. No Surgery. Just Hard Work. Rhonda's Real Talk on Lasting Weight Loss

Rhonda watched her entire family get swallowed up by diabetes, high blood pressure, and immobility — and she decided she would not be next. In this powerhouse compilation episode, the fitness instructor behind a fiercely loyal "fitness army" at the Telford YMCA shares the unfiltered truth about what it actually takes to transform your body and your health when the odds, your genetics, and even your own family are working against you. From losing 120 pounds and five dress sizes through movement and mindset alone, to watching her mother spend the final two years of her life unable to leave her chair, Rhonda pulls no punches about what a sedentary life truly costs you. She breaks down why motivation will always fade and discipline is the only thing that carries you, how to eat chocolate and carbs every day and still see results, what to do when the scale is lying to you, and why the gym should feel less like a chore and more like church. Whether you are just starting out, stuck on a plateau, or need someone to light a fire under you this holiday season, this episode delivers the kind of straight talk that actually sticks. No Cancellations, No Excuses: What 14 Years of Teaching Fitness Actually Looks Like

What does it actually take to go from reluctant gym-goer to teaching up to 23 hours of fitness classes a week? Rhonda Goode holds nothing back in this candid, no-nonsense conversation about the realities of the fitness industry, what separates instructors who build loyal followings from ones who flame out, and why most people never hit their goals (hint: it has nothing to do with the gym). In this special combined episode, Rhonda walks us through how she accidentally stumbled into teaching Zumba in 2011, what it was like to go from two students in a room to 65 sweaty bodies fogging up the mirrors at Berea College, and why she intentionally shows up a few minutes late to every class. She gets brutally honest about what she sees when she looks out at a room full of people, who is really there to work, and who is just checking a box. She also shares her take on the oversaturated certification industry, why word of mouth will always beat social media, and what she tells anyone who is sitting exactly where she was before everything changed. If you have been going through the motions at the gym and wondering why nothing is moving, this episode will make you rethink your entire approach. Stop Waiting to Feel Motivated: Why Action Comes First

If you've been waiting to feel motivated before you start working out, you might be waiting forever. Yoga teacher, podcast producer, and psychology-backed wellness expert Jamie Brooke breaks down why motivation is actually the result of taking action, not the starting point, and what that means for anyone who keeps pushing their workout to "next Monday." In this episode, Jamie shares the science-backed concept from Atomic Habits that flips the motivation myth on its head, a real-life example of a retired, kid-free woman who still can't seem to get to the gym, and the one question you should ask yourself instead of "do I feel like it today?" Host Ashley Grant also gets real about how waiting for motivation would have kept her stuck as the girl who couldn't make it through 15 minutes of Zumba. If you've ever talked yourself out of a workout before you even started, this episode is for you. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice. This Fitness Instructor Can Tell in 60 Seconds If You're Going to Quit

Fourteen years of watching people walk through a gym door has given Rhonda Goode an almost unsettling ability to read a new student before the music even starts, and in this episode, she tells you exactly what she sees. This is the final installment of our Podcasthon series, and it might be the most important one. Rhonda breaks down what separates the people who completely transform their lives from the ones who stay stuck in the same place year after year, and the answer is simpler and more uncomfortable than most people want to hear. She gets into why you cannot out-exercise a week of sitting, what the Netflix and binge lifestyle is actually costing your body, whether you can really outwork a bad diet, and what she would say right now to the person who knows something has to change but hasn't made the move yet. She also shares what it feels like when a student sends her a photo from the top of a mountain and says her class made the hike easy. This episode wraps up our spotlight on the Humane Society Animal League for Life of Madison County, Kentucky, as part of Podcasthon 2026. 14 Years at the Front of the Room: What a Real Fitness Instructor Actually Sees

If you have ever wondered what your fitness instructor is actually thinking when they scan the room, Rhonda Goode is about to tell you. In this episode, she pulls back the curtain on fourteen years of watching the fitness industry from the inside, and she has opinions. We get into the single biggest mistake she sees instructors make that costs them student loyalty, why she intentionally shows up five to seven minutes late to every class, what she can read from your body language before the music even starts, and why she does not waste time on people who are just there to check a box. She also weighs in on where the fitness industry is headed, what she thinks about the explosion of online certifications, and the one piece of advice she would give any new instructor before they step in front of their first class. Fair warning: she is not gentle about any of it. This is part two of three special episodes recorded as part of Podcasthon 2026, a global initiative where thousands of podcasts spotlight a charity of their choice. She Never Planned to Teach. Then the Room Filled Up and the Mirrors Fogged Over.

Rhonda Goode did not set out to become a fitness instructor. She set out to find someone who could kill her in a workout class, and when both of those instructors quit at the same time, she picked up the music and just went. What followed was fourteen years of packed rooms, fogged mirrors, pool classes that exploded out of nowhere, and a teaching style built entirely on refusing to stop moving. In this episode, Rhonda walks us through the full origin story: the chaotic Zumba sub that started it all, the Berea College classes that grew from two loyal students to sixty-five people crammed six inches from the front mirror, the YMCA in Richmond that became her home base, and how a woman who freely admits she is not a people person ended up being the person hundreds of people refuse to miss a chance to work out with. This is part one of three special episodes recorded as part of Podcasthon 2026, a global initiative where thousands of podcasts shine a spotlight on a charity of their choice. Is Your Workout Actually Working Against You? A Nurse Practitioner's Take on Strength, Recovery, and Training Smarter

A nurse practitioner who specializes in integrative medicine just made the case that strength training is literally medicine...not a bonus, not a nice-to-have, medicine. In this episode, Ashley shares a powerful voice note from Stephanie Baubie, NP, who breaks down why muscle mass is one of the strongest predictors of how well we age, and why the "more is always better" mentality could be quietly sabotaging your results. Stephanie covers the science behind strength training for long-term health, why overtraining spikes cortisol and works against muscle recovery, and what women in their forties specifically need to know as hormones shift during perimenopause. Ashley also gets refreshingly honest about her own training habits, clocking in at 10 to 16 hours of exercise per week, and what this episode made her rethink. If you have ever felt like you were doing all the right things but still felt depleted, this episode is for you. This podcast is for entertainment purposes only and is not medical advice.
