Thoughtful & Relatable

I found Jen & Sarah through Film Threads/Instagram and I’m so happy I did! This podcast is the perfect mix of thoughtful commentary while remaining very relatable for casual movie fans. I learn so much from their discussions and even when I disagree with an opinion, my perspective is widened by their explanations. This is a must-have in your rotation of movie podcasts!

Jen & Sarah does a great job of engaging with all the different films and finding those entry points that we all can find and celebrate those stories. It’s such a fun listen Michael from the Screen Nerds Podcast
SWE Compares Favorably to Young Jeezy
02/24/2023
Whenever I listen to SWE, I cannot help but to think of notable urban philosopher Young Jeezy (who recently dropped the “Young” from his moniker, which was probably wise given he is now 45 y/o). Jeezy flexed his macroeconomic prowess in his 2008 album “The Recession”. Most notably, Jeezy had the foresight to advocate for the correct monetary policy actions by the Federal Reserve within his music. In his track “Circulate”, Jeezy raps “rent being paid late // please let the dollar circulate” in an apparent appeal to former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. Bernanke responded to Jeezy’s compelling evidence by lowering the federal funds rate from 5.25% to 0% in less than a year. In a similar vein, the SWE crew has day jobs that have nothing to do with movies. I am not at liberty to speak on what these podcasters do for work, but just know their versatility is a flex on par with Jeezy’s crossover into monetary policy. Jeezy’s appeal is not necessarily from his content or his voice… his appeal stems from the tangible passion that bleeds through his music into the listener’s ears. Jeezy speaks on similar topic matter to many of his contemporaries (hustling, trapping), but one can argue that Jeezy ~means it~ more than other rappers. Much like Jeezy, the SWE crew operates in a saturated market (podcasts about movies). What truly distinguishes SWE is how much more they care about the subject matter. You can earnestly hear it in their voice on every episode. All other movie podcasts are OFFICIALLY on notice - if the competition’s hearts are not in their work, they are destined to lose audience share to SWE. I’m talking to you, Chris Ryan and Sean Fennessey. Perhaps the biggest advantage SWE has over Jeezy is the verifiable fact that R. Kelly has never been a guest on the podcast to discuss his favorite movies. R. Kelly has regrettable been featured a few Jeezy songs, including 2006 smash hit “Go Getta”. You hate to see it. Point, set, and match awarded to SWE gals.
