ABOUT THE EPISODE
In the midst of persecution, Paul writes a beautiful letter to the first church in Europe. This letter reminds us of where our ultimate citizenship lies and where we can find our true source of joy as we reflect Jesus in our lives.
Who wrote it? 
The Apostle Paul! This book feels linear. It’s a bit different because Paul uses a poem (2:6-11) which is a beautiful description of the Gospel. Everything else nods back to this key poem.
When was it written?
This book was written around AD 60-62, during the same imprisonment of Paul in Ephesians. This was a time of great persecution for followers of Jesus. This is Paul’s way of reaching out from prison to churches he loved!
Who was it written to?
The church of Philippi (see Acts 16 for context). This was Paul’s first stop on his missionary journey. With much Roman influence and a deep love of their country, reminders of citizenship in heaven would have hit this group deeply! 
What is the main theme/purpose?
How living as a Christian means seeing your own story as a lived expression of Jesus’ story. Your story is a part of Jesus’ story. We should walk with that responsibility.

ABOUT THE EPISODE
Buckle up, friends. Today’s episode takes us to the heart of some difficult instruction. Paul, in Ephesians 5, sets up three warnings for followers of Jesus. But he doesn’t leave us to dwell on the warnings alone. He accompanies them with sound instruction to guide us in obedience to Christ. 

As we navigate difficult warnings against sinful behavior, warnings about God’s wrath, and calls for submission, we are reminded that we can approach these warnings as dearly loved children of God. Let’s set aside any fear and shame as we dive into the goodness of God’s Word, giving it full authority in our lives.

Ephesians 4 can be divided into two major themes–unity and new life in Christ. The good news for believers is, unity does not mean uniformity. While we hold firmly to the core tenets of our faith–as expressed in the Nicene Creed–we see that the expression of God’s Church takes on a beautifully diverse landscape, all pointing to Jesus.

We’re exploring themes in Ephesians 3 today! Cherie and Tami discuss the meaning of “the mystery of the gospel revealed” in verses 1-13. This “mystery” is God’s plan for both Jews and Gentiles to receive His gift of salvation. We are one body in Christ, and this was mysterious news to a divided culture back then…but it can also reveal points of division in our own hearts. Are you tempted to withhold or reserve God’s grace from anyone?
Later on, we read a beautiful prayer from Paul, and we’re reminded that we pray to the God of immeasurably more! Do your prayers reflect that?
