A rant for people with Energetically Expensive Lives

A rant for people with Energetically Expensive Lives

Today’s episode is a rant that I would like to share with people who have Energetically Expensive Lives.

It’s a rant that I have been sharing with some of my clients who have energetically expensive lives, and it’s a rant that I just sometimes rant to myself, as I’m taking a walk, and feel fired up about these big, mistaken ideas that people with energetically expensive lives have.

If you don’t have much energy to spend, you need to make sure that you invest every cent of energy wisely.

So if you have an Energetically Expensive Life, this is a 4 part rant that I hope will help you.

The Princess and the Pea (A Sensitivity Story)

The Princess and the Pea (A Sensitivity Story)

Today I am sharing a concept I’ve developed over the past year or so. Like most of my best concepts, it came out of my work with my 1:1 clients.

One of my clients was extremely sensitive - which was both an incredible strength for her, and also caused some real suffering. I developed this concept to help her better understand what was going on for her - and also how to move forward.

It turns out it has also applied to some of my other clients - and maybe it will apply to you, too.

In this episode, I remind you of the story of the Princess and the Pea, share more about the lessons I take away from it — and what you can do with those lessons, practically.

I hope this concept gives you strength + a new perspective for the situations in your life. (Plus a fun re-telling of the Hans Christian Andersen classic, of course.)

Communicating with men (advice for women + everyone else)

Communicating with men (advice for women + everyone else)

I’m back with my husband, Gil, to share some ideas about how to communicate with men.

(This is part 2 of the series we started in Episode 31, where we discussed communicating with women.)

In this episode, Gil and I share our best tips for communicating with men, and pull back the curtain of our marriage a bit, too. You’ll hear:

+ Why it never worked when I’d (emotionally) ask Gil to “take my side” - and what I now ask for instead.
+ A time when I got mad at Gil - and why it was actually pretty effective
+ Plus listen till the end for a simple thing that I do that earns me an astonishing amount of goodwill in my marriage :)

As I mentioned last time, I hesitated to make this episode. I don't always love making gender-based generalizations - but I also felt like this was a topic that could help a lot of people.

I hope it's helpful for you.

This episode is for you, if you're a woman who sometimes struggles to communicate with men.
This episode is for you, if you're a man who sometimes struggles to explain to women why their communication isn't working.
(And this episode is for you, if you are a person of any gender who wants to communicate better with anyone - but especially men!)

Communicating with women (advice for men + everyone else)

Communicating with women (advice for men + everyone else)

In coaching my male clients, I realized that there were some common challenges that they encountered, in communicating with their female partners — and that I could often help them communicate far more effectively!

Truthfully, I hesitated to make this episode. I don't always love making gender-based generalizations - but I also felt like this was a topic that could help a lot of people.

So this week, I'm doing it. I'm sharing my best ideas about how to communicate with women, and I'm joined by a very special guest: my husband, Gil!

You'll hear my super-tactical suggestions, Gil's genius theoretical principles (he says things like "embrace the vortex" - and it is *so freaking good*), plus some fun behind-the-scenes about our relationship (there's a moment when I say: "I think the fact that you believe this concept is 90% of why we have a happy marriage.")

This episode is for you, if you're a man who sometimes struggles to communicate with women.
This episode is for you, if you're a woman who sometimes struggles to explain to men why their communication isn't working.
(And this episode is for you, if you are a person of any gender who wants to communicate better with anyone - but especially women!)

And stay tuned for my next episode, when we'll be talking about how to communicate with men!

    Julie’s Story

    Julie’s Story

On today’s podcast, I’m sharing an interview I did with my former client, Julie.

Our coaching work together covered many things – including a deep dive into decision-making + how to get better at it. In our conversation, Julie and I talk about:

+ The list of super-useful thoughts she cultivated about decision-making (which you should absolutely steal).

+ The 4-part decision-making process she developed in our work together (which she now uses to help the people she loves – like her roommate — make big decisions).

+ Her ability to tell the difference between feelings/thoughts that are “swirl” vs. “navigational.”

+ And more — including more about what it feels like to get coached!

I found myself grinning throughout this interview – Julie is such an insightful + creative person — and I’m sure you’re going to love it, too.

“What actually happens during a life coaching engagement?”

“What actually happens during a life coaching engagement?”

One of the most common questions I hear is some form of: so what actually *happens* on a coaching engagement?

This is a great question. After all, life coaching is a relatively new profession, so many people aren’t familiar with it. And different coaches run their coaching engagements in different ways.

Today I answer this question in two ways: from a more high-level arc of the overall engagement, and on the micro level within each coaching session.

I hope this episode gives you more insight on what coaching with me would be like.

Simple communicating reminders and more

Katie’s conversations are like a breath of fresh air. Whether it is her podcasts or her coaching sessions, she is easy to listen to and hugely helpful in guiding you to figure out where you are and where you want to be. Each episode has a little something that can help you be better right away. Everyone, both females and males, can greatly benefit from listening to the two podcast episodes she does with her husband, Gil: “Communicating with women” and “Communicating with men”. The lessons to learn are not just applicable to “life partners”, they are truly conversation “advice for men everyone else” and “advice for women everyone else”.

A true gift!!

Reporting in to review! Each episode is so helpful and actionable in a way that advice like this usually isn’t. I love how Katie gives real life, specific examples to help illustrate her concepts. I always feel better after listening and come away with something I can put to use in my own life. Thank you Katie!
