The mission of Doctors Melvin Speisman MD, FACP and Ann Slasuratis FACP is to educate and mentor current and next generation physicians on the intersections of artificial intelligence and medicine via research, teaching, hands on patient care, leadership, scholarships, and volunteerism by way of the American College of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine, their own 501c3 organization. Today’s speaker from our inaugural Scientific Session of The American College of Ai and Medicine is Dr. Caroline Chung, a leader at the forefront of data science and oncology. She serves as Vice President, Chief Data & Analytics Officer, and Co-Director of the Institute for Data Science in Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. A tenured professor in both Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging, Dr. Chung combines her clinical expertise in central nervous system cancers with pioneering research in computational imaging. Her work focuses on using advanced quantitative imaging and modeling to better detect and characterize tumors and treatment effects—laying the foundation for more personalized, data-driven cancer care. She leads major institutional efforts like the Tumor Measurement Initiative, aimed at transforming how clinical data is measured, interpreted, and applied through collaborative team science. On the global stage, Dr. Chung plays a key role in shaping standards for quantitative imaging and AI in medicine. She co-chairs several influential committees and coalitions, including groups within the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements, the Quantitative Medical Imaging Coalition, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s AI Community of Practice.     Dr. Mel Speisman specializes in Academic Internal Medicine. He is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, diabetes, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, stroke, and other chronic medical conditions. He is interested in the primary prevention of disease with a passion for medical education and bedside teaching. He has received numerous awards from medical students and residents during his 25 year career as a core faculty member of an internal medicine residency program. Dr. Speisman has mentored many physicians to take on leadership roles in academic internal medicine. Mel is a lifetime member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society signifying his lifelong commitment to outstanding patient care, professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, teaching, and community service. In 2024, Mel completed certification programs in Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare at both Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology as well as a certification in Artificial Intelligence from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. Mel is currently enrolled in the Stanford Artificial Intelligence in Health care Certificate Program with the goal of becoming a world leader at the intersection of AI and Medicine. Mel is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine (FAIM). In August 2024, he transitioned from being an Assistant Professor in the Division of Academic Internal Medicine at the University Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine to taking a position as President of the American College of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine. Dr. Ann Slasuraitis has been an Academic Internal Medicine hospitalist and core faculty member of an Internal Medicine residency program for over 20 years. During this time, she was involved with undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education as the Director for Continuing Medical Education (CME). She has mentored hundreds of medical students and internal medicine residents and has received numerous teaching awards. Currently, she provides primary care to adults with autism at the Ann Kiley Developmental Center and is the Medical Director of the Rimland Center for Autism Research. Dr. Slasuraitis is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and a Fellow of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine (FAIM). In 2023, Ann received the ACP Illinois Outstanding Women Physician Award. In August 2024, she accepted a position as the Executive Vice President of the American College of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine. Dr. Slasuraitis is committed to life-long learning and in our ever-changing medical profession, she is passionate about educating the current and next generation physicians about artificial intelligence and medicine.     Hooman H. Rashidi MD, MS, FCAP Associate Dean of AI in Medicine, Professor & Endowed Chair of Lombardi-Shinozuka Experimental Pathology Research at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Executive Vice Chair of Computational Pathology & Informatics Division at UPMC, Executive Director of CPACE (Computational Pathology & AI Center of Excellence) Dr. Rashidi combines his passion for patient care, research and education with his unique training in bioinformatics and machine learning (ML) to create innovative new tools (i.e. MILO, STNG, Pitt-GPT+, WSI-Genie, Nebulon-GPT, etc.) and resources (Hematology Outlines, Cleveland Clinic's AI course, etc.) that improve clinical practice, research and education. His experience in AI/ML dates back to his graduate years at UCSD which subsequently allowed him to serve as the principal author and editor of several popular bioinformatics textbooks. This background has also enabled him to develop various novel AI-ML platforms. He is currently the Associate Dean of AI in Medicine, Professor & Endowed Chair of Lombardi-Shinozuka Experimental Pathology Research at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Executive Director of CPACE (Computational Pathology & AI Center of Excellence) and the Executive Vice Chair of the Computational Pathology & Informatics Division at UPMC. He is also Adjunct Professor of Engineering at the Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining University Pittsburgh / UPMC, he served as the founding director of Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Diagnostics & Artificial Intelligence & Vice Chair of Technology Innovation & Computational Pathology, and before that he served as the Director of AI for University of California Davis Medical Center and Professor & Vice chair of informatics, leading a large number of AI studies with numerous collaborators from various prominent institutions. These experiences and studies have also led to the invention of numerous products (most recent of which being the on-prem LLM framework Pitt-GPT+, the automated Image analytics frameworks WSI Genie and Auto-Pix AI) & several filed patents/established products (e.g. the University of California IP MILO: Machine Intelligence Learning Optimizer, the proprietary Automated ML platform & it’s suite of 6 complimentary separate unique Data Science and Statistics Apps & Cleveland Clinic’s new automated synthetic data generator and Validation platform STNG, Synthetic Tabular Neural Generator) along with a large number of manuscripts in which he serves as corresponding author. These products have also been licensed to several industry and academic institutions & serving as a powerful suite of data science tools for a large number of clinical, quality, research and educational projects while also starting to help optimize and expedite data access needs for all investigators. In addition to the above, Dr. Rashidi is also a practicing physician (board certified hematopathologist) and a well-known educator with numerous teaching awards who has created some of the AppStore’s most popular hematology Apps along with Cleveland Clinic’s most recent AI-ML course (launched Cleveland Clinic wide in Jan 2024).
