    Ep39: Nick wants to speak to the manager about 'Raise Your Voice'; Evelyn asks Oklahoma to be better.

    We’re back at Château Reverse Jackass with an episode that begins as a casual debrief and quickly becomes a formal complaint against Raise Your Voice, starring Hillary Duff, John Corbett, and several deeply disturbing choices about music education. Nick recounts the cinematic abuse of watching the movie after Evelyn recommended it, including the suspiciously church-camp energy. Evelyn, having caused the damage, mostly sits back and enjoys the carnage. Naturally, this leads to Evelyn having reflections on Saskatchewan. Evelyn explains that Saskatchewan lives between worlds because it refuses to participate in daylight savings time like a normal province, and then asks Nick which American state feels most like Raise Your Voice. Nick, after briefly considering Virginia and Louisiana, lands on Oklahoma with the assurance that everything he says makes him sound worse and worse. Somewhere out there, a dog barks in the distance, Hillary Duff is still singing, and John Corbett's menacing a cello.     Ep38: Evelyn got stuck on the phone; Nick got stuck filling out paperwork.

    What starts as a simple intro somehow immediately turns into a low-grade workplace dispute, complete with accusations of neglect, passive aggression, emotional damage, and a shocking amount of nostril flaring. Evelyn and Nick spend the opening minutes sounding less like co-hosts and more like two middle managers trapped in a very small boardroom. Eventually, underneath all the fake hostility, Evelyn shares a story about how one of the things she loved most, music, also became the reason she got dragged into a deeply unwanted long-distance phone friendship with a girl in New Zealand, courtesy of her grandfather. In response, Nick tells a college story about being the one responsible person in a dorm crisis, only to have his moral compass ruin his romantic evening in record time. Both sides of the Canada-U.S. border can agree on this one thing: sometimes the very thing that makes you you is also the thing that causes the trouble.     Ep37: Nick honors George Washington Carver; Evelyn might require her Epi-Pen.

    Episode 45 begins with Nick bringing an actual American icon to the table: George Washington Carver, scientific genius, agricultural legend, and longtime cornerstone of Nick's mother's first-grade curriculum. Nick explains how his mother’s students carefully copied “George Washington Carver” from the board, then absolutely freelanced the word “peanuts” into something far less classroom-safe. A tribute to innovation quickly becomes a transitional first grade disasterpiece. Evelyn, unfortunately, is severely allergic to peanuts, which leads to a moving deathbed monologue in which she thanks Mr. Carver for his contributions while gently asking whether he ever considered almonds (a nut she can enjoy). The conversation takes a sharp right, a sharp left, and almost lands in the ditch as, for the first time in Reverse Jackass history, Nick and Evelyn try on 3 different question prompts before landing on one that Evelyn has the brain power left to answer.  Somehow Canadian Tire’s Frank mascot enters the conversation as Canada’s possible answer to George Washington Carver. Let's just agree that the peanut lives on. Frank’s gummies do not. And who the heck even knows where we are on the diplomacy-o-meter anymore...     Ep36: Evelyn uses whimsy as a ladder out of the pit; Nick still believes in fast food and good weather.

    Today on the RJP, Evelyn crawls out of a real-life pit of despair the least dramatic way possible: one small choice at a time. It starts with a last-minute manicure, turns into a “whimsy audit,” and becomes a full-on experiment in seeing her current life through the eyes of younger Evelyn. Tiny, practical proof that the story isn’t just “sad,” even when it feels like it. Nick jumps in with his own “younger me would never believe this” list. They talk about the weird tenderness of aging: how weather stops being romantic and starts being…joint pain and headaches, and how what feels “cool” shifts from big milestones to tiny comforts that keep you afloat. The moral of the story is: If your side of the border feels heavy right now, borrow a little ridiculous joy from your neighbo(u)r. Even if it’s just a manicure you can’t stop staring at.     Ep35: Nick couldn’t write the essay; Evelyn couldn’t do the math.

    Episode 35 is coming alive! Nick gets dragged to the front of the class and told—loudly, publicly, spiritually—that his essay is garbage and his future is bleak. So he does what any reasonable teen would do: recruits the smartest girl in school, rewrites the whole thing, and somehow makes it worse.  Evelyn, meanwhile, was not a problem in high school...but math absolutely was. She thrived in the arts, but her relationship with math was hostile at best, and entire evenings were sacrificed at the kitchen table trying to make sense of something that simply refused to be understood. Add in some eerily calm teachers who could maneuver a classroom with one sentence, and others who absolutely should’ve retired mid-rant, and you’ve got the full educational experience between Canada and the United States.     Ep34: Evelyn hosts a cross-border pronunciation quiz; Nick derails it with “funky butt loving.”

    Evelyn and Nick open with a “redemption episode” after a lost-to-the-vault recording session, and immediately decide the healthiest possible reset is… publicly daring each other to apologize via email. It’s petty. It’s theatrical. It’s Reverse Jackass. Then Evelyn brings a podcast idea suggested by their mutual friend Alyse (SHOUTOUT TO ALYSE)  and puts Nick on the spot with a delicately curated list of words. Nick, naturally, responds with equal parts linguistic smugness and chaos energy, and somehow we end up with the phrase “funky butt loving” entering the chat like a fresh-out-of-hibernation brown bear staggering into an Erewhon. In conclusion: we may not pronounce things the same, but we do share a sacred cultural value… arguing confidently about pronunciation while being completely unqualified to do so. And confident arguing is the foundation of, not only Nick and Evelyn's friendship, but also of the Reverse Jackass podcast.     Ep33: Nick's watch costs more than your car; Evelyn gives the pep talk nobody asked for.

    Nick kicks things off by assigning Evelyn the sacred American homework of watching Alec Baldwin’s “Always Be Closing” monologue, then immediately demands she create a music-teacher version of ABC. Evelyn responds with “Ask Before Closing,” a classroom law designed to prevent busted guitars, busted routines, and busted early-exit dreams. From there, we get a full hallway-justice saga: one student tries to sneak out early, Evelyn tracks him down in the cafeteria like a woman possessed, and the whole class gets the deeply satisfying return of Scott to the scene of the crime. It’s discipline, theatre, and asset protection, all wrapped into one very sweaty high school music room. Meanwhile, America contributes David Mamet, emotional violence, and the phrase “coffee is for closers,” while Canada contributes classical guitars, weaponized patience, and a teacher who absolutely will come down the stairs after you.  Peace between nations? Maybe not. But at least nobody dropped the guitar.
