The riff is the foundation of heavy music, evolving over several decades and styles. Many of our favorite songs started with a single idea and guitar in hand. Anyone can write a riff, but what makes a good riff? Each week, riff disciples Austin Paulson, Dylan Adams, & Justin Swindle attempt to answer this question by discussing their favorite riffs, how they came to be, and why we still worship them today.

Death Is This Communion
With three albums and years of hard touring under their belt, it should have been business as usual for Matt Pike and Des Kensel. However, there was a renewed sense of vigor with the addition of bassist/collaborator Jeff Matz as well as Jack Endino behind the board. Oakland stoner metal barbarians High On Fire were ready to lay waste on album number four.
Please join us in celebrating High On Fire's breakthrough album Death Is This Communion
