Self obsessed?

Long time listener. But Thursday there was whining about Paris being a month ago and needing another vacation. Enough!!,Now I see why you need so many ads. You have done better, can you get over yourselves and get back to when the podcast was for the audience and not all about you?

Not for Every Royal Watcher

I’ve followed Royally Obsessed for several years and have looked forward to listening to the friendly voices of women who share my interest. Over the past several months I’ve become increasingly disenchanted, until finally deciding to unsubscribe. I tuned back in to hear their episode leading up to the Queen’s funeral, as well as their hot take today following the service. I hoped they would prove me wrong, but sadly the episodes only reinforced my conviction to leave their podcast behind. Here’s why…

At this sensitive time of mourning, I expected to hear a conversation about the Queen - her life, her legacy, and the historic work of honoring her life. I also hoped they would give a generous and optimistic look at the reign of a new monarch. I think that’s what Queen Elizabeth would have wanted. She had great faith in the next generation. From everything I have seen, King Charles has approached the Herculean task of mourning his mother while shouldering a heavy new role with grace, dignity, and dedication that honors his mother’s memory. While their guest seemed to share my view, the hosts cast a shadow by reading a deeply negative and pessimistic fan letter. They even went so far as to say that seeing King Charles on a throne was “dystopian”. I wish they had commented on the beauty of watching the crown pass so seamlessly from one monarch to another, with the grace and continuity that Queen Elizabeth valued. They also spent time on questions and topics that seem oddly irrelevant at this historical moment. As we mourn the end of a 70 year reign, if you were wondering when we would hear the next episode of Meghan’s podcast, these ladies are with you.

The hosts are clearly passionate, hard working, and committed. That said, I can’t continue to muddle through commentary that constantly rips off the scab of tired criticisms of some royals, while willfully ignoring those of others. Many reviewers have commented on their obsession with the Sussexes. While I don’t disagree, my issue is how they endlessly focus on personal fascinations and theories that seem to rarely, if ever, evolve. If you happen to agree with the hosts particular obsessions, you will enjoy this podcast.

If You’re A Meghan Fan (or a liberal), Follow

I listen for the Royal Family discussion and have learned, but as I listen to more episodes, it’s apparent these two are Americans who are all too sympathetic to Meghan and her antics. I also just had to listen to one of them express their excitement over her child getting the vaccine, so that tells you a little about them. Ugh. Searching for a new podcast about the Royals. #RIPQUEENelizabethII #GodSavetheKing
