I'm not sure why I listen to this podcast. It's not really good. The intros are stupid, discussion is all over the place, the hosts are not very exciting or particularly listenable, there seems to be little preperation in general and the podcast tends to drag on for hours without any real engaging humor or witty banter or anecdotes of better podcasts like Retronauts.
But there is something genuinely authentic about a bunch of RPG nerds just sitting and discussing old games. It's rough and mostly unfiltered and resembles a more casual conversation rather than a polished presentation. And being a nerd who loves old games- I am sometimes put to shame by the breadth of RPG knowledge displayed here. Although a lot of times there is only one or two people on the panel who have played a certain game, or (in the case of FF8 for example) the panel will be composed of people who don't like a game, with no one there to defend it- so the discussion is often one sided. And with more research the show could probably be infused with more useful/interesting bits of info or trivia about the games.
I would say the podcast could benefit from some more interesting radio-type personalities, but it would take away from what is a very raw discussion with opinions straight from the mouths of the biggest RPG fans around- often covering incredibly obscure games you won't hear about anywhere else and probably have no interest in.
Again I'm not sure why I listen to this podcast but I do for some reason look forward to what topic is next.
