Doctors & Diagnosis | Starting Your EDS & Hypermobility Journey (BENDY)

In this episode of the BENDY series, D stands for Doctors & Diagnosis. I share my personal journey to being diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Ankylosing Spondylitis, hip dysplasia, and dystonia, along with the challenges, frustrations, and relief that came with finally having answers. We also discuss how to begin pursuing an EDS or hypermobility diagnosis, who to talk to first, the specialists who may be involved, and why your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously. If you've ever felt like you're not being heard or have wondered where to start, this episode is for you. Remember: a diagnosis doesn't define you. It helps you better understand your body and find the support you need. ⚠️ Disclaimer: This episode is for educational purposes only and should not replace medical advice. Flat Rock Trail Race Recap | Faster, Farther, Fewer Falls with Ben

In this episode of Runnah, Ben takes over the host chair as we recap my experience at the Flat Rock Trail Race. We talk about how much has changed since Stone Cat 2025, where I was in my chronic illness journey then, and how things are looking now. From running farther and faster to simply falling less, we dive into the progress that doesn't always show up on paper. We discuss nervous system regulation, learning to work with my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Ankylosing Spondylitis instead of fighting against them, and why this race was one of the most fun experiences I've had on the trails. We also share why we think more people should put Flat Rock on their race calendar and celebrate the incredible community that makes these events so special. 🏃 Flat Rock Trail Race:https://sites.google.com/view/flatrocktrailrace/home?authuser=0 📘 Flat Rock Trail Race Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/flatrocktrailrace 🐆 Death March Running Company:https://deathmarchrunningcompany.com/collections/accessories/products/dmrc-shoe-bag-neon-leopard 📧 Contact Runnah:runnahpod@gmail.com 📸 Follow Runnah:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/runnahpodcast 🏃 Follow Julianna:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jellyanna_runs Whether you're living with chronic illness, chasing your first trail race, or simply trying to become a little stronger than you were yesterday, this episode is a reminder that progress comes in many forms. #TrailRunning #Ultrarunning #FlatRockTrailRace #EhlersDanlosSyndrome #AnkylosingSpondylitis #ChronicIllnessAthlete #AdaptiveAthlete #StoneCat #TrailRaceRecap

Mobility Aids, Physical Therapy & Body Awareness in EDS | Educated Movement - BENDY Series

In this episode of the Runnah BENDY Series, we explore what it really means to move with intention in a body that doesn’t always follow the “standard rules.” E stands for Educated Movement — understanding physical therapy, mobility aids, posture, body positioning, and most importantly, learning how your own body communicates. As someone navigating EDS, Ankylosing Spondylitis, and other connective tissue challenges while training as a marathon and trail runner, I’ve learned that movement isn’t just about pushing harder. It’s about moving smarter, adapting, and respecting the signals your body gives you. We talk about: The role of physical therapy in long-term movement healthMobility aids and braces as tools, not limitationsRing splints and hand support for hypermobilityPosture and positioning for daily life and runningFinancial and emotional realities of managing chronic conditionsWhy “educated movement” is a form of self-advocacyThis episode is about removing shame from support tools and replacing it with knowledge, agency, and curiosity about what your body needs.
