RV Navigator Episode 206 - Tens Days in Quarantine

RV Navigator Episode 206 - Tens Days in Quarantine

After joking last month about the possibility of having to quarantine, it happened to us. We were escorted off of our cruise and into a hotel for a 10 day quarantine due to positive covid tests. Neither of us were sick, but the policy is that a positive test requires a quarantine period.

RV Navigator Episode 205- Cruising the Oceans and Rivers

RV Navigator Episode 205- Cruising the Oceans and Rivers

This months finds your RVNavigators sailing on both the Atlantic ocean and Rivers of Europe. We had ventured across the Atlantic in order to attend the famous Tulip festival in Amsterdam. Rather than take on jet lag (7 hrs in this case), we decided to sail across the Atlantic in 14 days. The sailing was amazingly smooth with no storms for the entire 14 days. Although the itinerary only called for 4 port calls, and 9 days of sailing we enjoyed the journey and the amenities on the ship, the Enchanted Princess.
After arriving in Amsterdam, we made our first visit to the Keukenhof gardens housing the 17 acres of tulips. The flowers were in full bloom and the day was spectacular as we enjoyed the display of color. We’ll be making couple of addition visits to the gardens later in the trip. We then boarded the Viking Sagrun for a 10 river cruise that will depart and return to Amsterdam after visiting several stops in the Netherlands.
In this episode we compare ocean to river cruising as well as large vs small cruising. Of course there is the usual Ring news and comments on RV topics.

RV Navigator Episode 204 - No Place to Park

RV Navigator Episode 204 - No Place to Park

We drove the motorhome north back to IL so that we could leave again but this time on a plane back to FL to meet our trans Atlantic cruise to Copenhagen. We did have a new roof installed and I am lusting after a Starlink dish, but for now the MH is safely parked in our new storage lot.

RV Navigator Episode 203 - Monkeys and Birds

RV Navigator Episode 203 - Monkeys and Birds

This episode was recorded on the road, as we traveled south this month on a planned group trip to Costa Rica and its many national parks. Although CR is only the size of West Virgina, it has as many national parks as the US. In our 3 weeks in country, we will visit just a few of the major parks in their system. The parks range from jungle to mountain and we have worn long pants and jackets in some parks and jungle attire in others. Sometimes in the same day. Much of the focus of these parks is the animal/bird population. We have seen many birds that we recognize from Florida, but we’ve added to our bird list with some new finds. Animals we’ve seen include sloths, monkeys, and a bunch of others whose names I cannot remember - but I do have pictures. Every day has been a photo adventure. I recently upgraded by system to include an 800mm tele lens. This has helped me get some great shots of animals at a distance.
Covid is taken very seriously in CR. We are required to wear masks in all indoor settings and many outdoor settings. Every establishment has a hand washing station many with temperature checks. Every though our small group is it’s own bubble, we still take temps and wear masks when together. However we have not had to take any covid tests to travel. Returning back to the US will require a COVID test before boarding the plane.

RVing is still on our minds even while traveling outside the country. We share some reasons why we travel in a Class A diesel pusher rather than another type of RV. Several new gizmos and gadgets have attracted our attention and we give some technology updates.
Of course our hotel internet is spotty but I have manage to mount the podcast on time (it took over 40 minutes to upload (usual time is about 30 seconds), but it does seem to have made the trip to the host server ready for downloading.

    RV Navigator Episode 202 - RV+Cruise

    RV Navigator Episode 202 - RV+Cruise

The beginning of the month found us on the high seas in the Caribbean aboard the Silver Spirit for 11 nights. With only 50% of the passenger capacity actually onboard, some activities were naturally curtailed. This was our first time on an upscale ship (Silversea) with a large cabin and butler service (this was due to reduced per diem due to covid).
After the cruise in Mid-January, we headed to the Tampa RV Super Show.. Attendance at the show was a record levels, so RVing is still popular. We share what’s new and what we saw at the show in this episode.

Wisdom from age; Wit from dialogue

First, let me state that this review is long overdue. I follow a significant number of podcasts, including several RV-related shows. Of the library on hand, I listen to a select number as time allows. Suffice it to say, the RV Navigator always goes to the top of my list when Ken and Martha release their monthly show.

Ken is a fount of RV knowledge - he’s been doing this a long time. I am continually impressed with his technical knowledge and he plays a great straight man to Martha’s witty commentary and punchlines. While their shows are usually around 60 minutes in length, each one goes by too fast and then it’s another month of waiting for the next show to hit the “Latest Episodes” listing.

Note that the couple can and do occasionally venture in to discussing other travel experiences, including cruising. While I’m not necessarily a fan of cruise travel (particularly in the age of COVID), Ken and Martha seem to make that topic interesting.

So, here’s to this erudite pair of inveterate travelers. Fans are fortunate that these young-at-heart travel veterans have done so many shows (now at 204, I believe) so listening to back-dated programs can help fill some of the air time between new episodes.

We look forward to another 200 episodes, Ken and Martha. No matter what interesting travel upon which you embark, we listeners can vicariously enjoy your traversing of highways, oceans, trails, or even your backyard in Chicago. And you never know… you may soon be broadcasting from your mobile studio in a campground near me!

Great RVing/Travel Podcast

I have listened to every episode since the Fall, 2014. I love Martha’s and Ken’s banter. I have learned a great deal about RVing and travel, including technology and apps associated with RVing. In addition, I have learned more about the world through their international cruises. They were both educators and they continue to be great teachers. Thank you!

We’ve been listening to your podcast for just over 2 years now. We enjoy hearing about your travels and the RV life style. I think the stories and information are a great help to new and seasoned RV travelers. Thanks for taking to time to do this each month. Looking forward to many more.
