Episode 189: Murder for Fantasy-The Grant Amato Case

Send us Fan Mail What begins as an online fantasy spirals into one of the most shocking family annihilation cases in recent memory. Grant Amato seemed to have everything going for him—a supportive family, a nursing career, and a promising future. But behind closed doors, he became consumed by an obsession with a Bulgarian webcam model he had never met. As his fixation deepened, he drained his family's finances, stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, and pushed relationships to the breaking point. When Grant's parents and brother attempted a final intervention, tragedy followed. In January 2019, Chad, Margaret, and Cody Amato were found shot to death inside their Florida home. Prosecutors argued that Grant murdered his entire family to protect the fantasy world he had built online and then attempted to stage the scene as a murder-suicide. After a highly publicized trial, a jury found him guilty of three counts of first-degree murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In this episode, we examine the warning signs of digital obsession, the devastating impact of financial manipulation, and the chilling events that led to the deaths of an entire family. Could this tragedy have been prevented, or was the outcome inevitable once fantasy overtook reality? Support the show Thanks for all the support!! Episode 188: The Long Drive: A Father's Deadly Secret — The Timothy Ray Jones Case

Send us Fan Mail Timothy Ray Jones Jr. was a South Carolina father who murdered his five children—Merah (8), Elias (7), Nahtahn (6), Gabriel (2), and Abigail (1)—in August 2014 in one of the most disturbing family homicide cases in recent U.S. history. Prosecutors said Jones killed the children at his home in Lexington County after becoming enraged and abusing them. He later admitted to killing all five children and transporting their bodies in his vehicle for several days before dumping them in a remote area of Alabama.  Jones was arrested after a traffic stop in Mississippi raised suspicions. During his trial, the defense argued that he suffered from severe mental illness and drug-induced psychosis, while prosecutors maintained that he understood his actions and took deliberate steps to conceal the crimes. In 2019, a jury convicted him on five counts of murder and sentenced him to death.  In 2023, the South Carolina Supreme Court upheld both his convictions and death sentence, rejecting his appeal. Jones remains on South Carolina's death row while additional appeals continue through the court system.  The case is often cited as one of the most horrific child-murder cases in South Carolina history due to the number of victims, the ages of the children, and Jones's efforts to conceal the crimes.  Support the show Thanks for all the support!!
