Sam was the first full-time dietitian at Boise State and has grown the program to include 15+ team members including another full-time dietitian, a fellow, graduate assistants, paid interns and student volunteers. Prior to this, Sam received her Master's degree from University Utah in Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, while working with the lacrosse and football teams. Sam developed her passion for sports nutrition at Penn State where she was also a student-athlete. Most importantly, Sam has a loving husband and  two black labs. Dr. Sunnie DeLano is an associate professor of teaching in nutritional science at Pepperdine University. In addition to teaching in the undergraduate department she oversees the Master’s degree in Nutrition and Health Science and the internship program for students studying to become registered dietitians. She holds a BS in Nutritional Science from Pepperdine University and completed her Master’s degree in Nutrition, as well as her dietetic internship at California State University Northridge. She holds a Doctorate degree in Health Professions Education from Logan University, with research interests in the areas of weight management and intuitive eating, child feeding practices and best practices in the area of education for future health professionals.   She began her career in the areas of childhood weight management, eating disorders and sports nutrition before moving into academia at her alma mater, Pepperdine. Academia is where she found her home and has remained so for over 25 years.Dr. DeLano teaches undergraduate courses in sports nutrition and nutrition through the lifecycle and graduate courses in weight management, counseling and education, as well as leadership and communication. She serves on the coalition for homelessness in her community and has a passion for everyone going to bed with food in their stomachs, regardless of circumstances.  Her free time is spent at the beach, treasure hunting at antique stores or traveling!     Medical Education Specialist @ Thorne w/ Maura Donovan

    Want to get Coffee?! Maura Donovan has an incredible story to becoming a sports dietitian. Her impressive background and unique career path have set her up for her dream job. Maura is a board-certified sports dietitian and currently serves as a Medical Education Specialist for Sports Nutrition at Thorne. Maura earned her master’s degree in nutritional sciences and completed her dietetic internship for RD credentialing at Boston University with concentrations in sports nutrition, eating disorders, and clinical nutrition. In 2023, after completing over 2,000 hours of sports nutrition work, Maura sat for her board exam and became a Board-Certified Sports Dietitian. Maura began her career at Walden Behavioral Care, working in their Partial Hospitalization program and their GOALS IOP program for athletes with eating disorders. She was responsible for programming nutrition education sessions, patient meal plans, and overseeing patient meals and group sessions. Prior to joining Thorne, Maura oversaw the nutrition of 14 Division 1 intercollegiate sports teams at Boston College. In conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Nutrition, Maura was responsible for individual athlete nutrition counseling, delivering team nutrition talks, creating educational materials, providing supplement education, and collaborating with coaches and sports medicine to ensure the best nutrition practices for all athletes.  This episode is brought to you by 2before Performance Nutrition. Brett also helps lead the Memorial Hermann Sports Nutrition Residency Program. Outside of his role with Memorial Hermann, Brett serves as the Conference Planning Chair on the Board of Directors for American Sports & Performance Dietitians Association (ASPDA). Brett currently serves as a consulting sports dietitian within Major League Soccer. He has previously served as the sports dietitian for Houston Dynamo FC and Austin FC. He has also previously served as an Adjunct Professor within the University of Houston Master of Athletic Training Program.  Meredith Parmley, MS, RD, CSSD is a board certified sports dietitian based in Houston, TX with the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute. As a student-athlete on the XC and track teams at the University of Houston, Meredith battled iron deficiency and under-fueling. Along the way, she developed a strong interest in helping young athletes use nutrition as a means to reach their full potential. Upon completion of her bachelors and master’s degrees, Meredith completed a sports nutrition residency program to further her practical skills within the field of sports nutrition. She currently serves as a contract RD for various teams and schools, including the Houston Dynamo organization, Houston Christian University, the Savannah Bananas, and local high schools.
