Saved From Alcohol Addiction- A Story of Surrender :: Penny Thorne's Story [Episode 373]

Penny Thorne, who shared at our community group in Raleigh, North Carolina, grew up with a strong foundation of faith but quietly believed the lie that she had to earn God's love by being good enough. That pressure followed her into adulthood, where she soon discovered alcohol helped to ease her anxiety of trying to be perfect. Over time, however, the alcohol began to take control. But God, in His kindness, had a plan for redemption.   Through the love of her daughter, time in Scripture, and stepping into community, Penny encountered the pursuing love of a Father who never let her go. Her story is a reminder that we don't have to strive for God's love; we're invited to receive it.   VERSE OF THE WEEK: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.  - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4   CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: Have you ever fallen into a pattern of trying to earn God's love? Cease striving today and find rest and peace knowing you are enough.  ______________________________________________________________   Listen to "There is No Striving" by Rita Springer   Listen to a similar story:  Episode 315- Sarah Robinson- "A New Trajectory: Redeemed from Alcoholism and Pursued by the Father."    Download a phone background of the weekly verse HERE!   Give to StoryTellers Live in honor of Penny   Join us "In the Room" on Patreon to access new stories straight from our live gatherings around the country!   Shop for our When God Shows Up Bible Study series~ Stories of Hope, Stories of Freedom, Stories of Faith Are you interested in one-on-one coaching with our very own Robyn Kown!?  Click HERE!   Check out all of our live speaking engagement opportunities on our website.   Sign up to receive StoryTellers Live's weekly newsletter for upcoming events, new podcast episodes, details on our live gatherings happening around the country, and much more!! Choosing to Believe God - Trusting Through the Loss of a Child :: Beverly May's Story [Episode 372]

In seasons of deep grief, faith can feel less like certainty and more like a daily choice. Yet even the smallest seed of faith can grow into something that bears witness to God's goodness.   On today's podcast, Beverly May from our community in Auburn, Alabama, vulnerably shares her journey through the sudden loss of her 13-year-old son, Will. As she looks back, Beverly reflects on the ways the Lord made His presence known—through His Word, His mercies, and the faithful care of His people.   Her story is a powerful reminder that God meets us in the details of our lives, revealing His love and faithfulness even in the hardest seasons. If you or someone you love has experienced the sudden loss of a loved one, this story offers a glimpse of the hope that can only be found in Jesus.   VERSE OF THE WEEK: For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12   CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: Sometimes, faith is a choice. Where do you need to choose faith in your life? Take that mustard seed and offer it to the Lord and watch Him show you His goodness, faithfulness, and love.  _____________________________________   Listen to the song "Shadows" by David Crowder and Lecrae   We offer Spotify playlists!  Click HERE to listen to a story by topic!   Download a phone background of the weekly verse HERE!   Give to StoryTellers Live in honor of Beverly   Join us "In the Room" on Patreon to access new stories straight from our live gatherings around the country! Dismantling My Pride :: Emma Flaugher's Story [Episode 371]

Pride is often subtle, yet it quietly shapes what we love, pursue, and depend on. In today's episode, Emma Flaugher—who shared her story at our Charleston Live Gathering—speaks honestly about a lifelong struggle with pride and her deep desire for approval and applause. What began as faithful ministry leadership slowly became a place where the Lord exposed her craving for recognition and her tendency to find worth in the affirmation of others.   With humility, Emma shares how God, in His kindness, began to dismantle her self-reliance and redirect her heart. This is a story about conviction that leads to freedom—freedom from performing for people, freedom to embrace her limitations, and freedom to rest in God's approval alone. If you've ever wrestled with needing to be seen, valued, or applauded, Emma's story will gently point you back to the steady grace of a God who lovingly reshapes our hearts.   VERSE OF THE WEEK: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24   CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: This week reflect on areas of pride in your life. What are you seeking when pride sneaks in? Affirmation? Value? Approval? intentionally shift your focus off yourself, acknowledge your limitations, and trust God.  _________________________________________________________   Listen to this song from The Corner Room by Adam Wright: "Psalm 139:17-24"   Listen to a similar story:  Ep. 337- Kelley Brown: A Significant Life is a Surrendered Life"   Download a phone background of the weekly verse HERE!   Give to StoryTellers Live in honor of Emma!   Register here for our Finding God in the Details workshop being offered online on April 21st.   Join us "In the Room" on Patreon to access new stories straight from our live gatherings around the country! Go to our website or click HERE to see a list of our communities and sign up to receive live gathering notifications for your particular community or one near you!   FOLLOW US on Instagram and Facebook!

Hope in the Hard - A Story of Surrender and the Presence of God :: Sarah Waller's Story [Episode 368]

As we journey toward Heaven, God, in His kindness, continually reveals who He is and invites us to experience His presence more intimately. Today's storyteller, Sarah Waller from our Homewood, Alabama community, reminds us that in life's hardest moments, surrendering to God opens our eyes to His faithful nearness.   Sarah shares how the Lord gently revealed His Kingship to her in her twenties and the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit in her thirties—showing up in both the big moments and the quiet, everyday ones. These revelations, however, were forged through deep suffering: first, the loss of her mother to cancer, and later, the trial of undergoing an intense brain surgery.   Through every loss and uncertainty, God tenderly called Sarah to rest in this truth—that she is a daughter of the King, fully seen, deeply known, and unconditionally loved.   VERSE OF THE WEEK: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33   CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK: What is God teaching you in this season of your life? Reflect on how He is showing you His faithfulness. _______________________________________________________________   Listen to a similar story: Ep. 254- Toma Knight: "Living in Light of Eternity"   Download a phone background of the weekly verse HERE!    Give to StoryTellers Live in honor of Sarah and any of our past storytellers!   Join us "In the Room" on Patreon to access new stories straight from our live gatherings around the country!   Register here for our Finding God in the Details workshop being offered online on April 21st.
