A Decent Show

Mike does a pretty good show and I must admit I listen regularly. Always a good and timely topic.

Some critiques:
- it’s a podcast but Mike conducts the show like it is a radio show. For instance, he repeats the same things over and over again during each episode, as if the listener is potentially coming in and out and not listening to the whole show. He also says “we’re going to take a quick break” as if he is going to actually take a break and run ads. But all he does is insert a promo. I’d be fine with paid ads FYI.
- the production quality is mixed. The front part sounds good usually. The interviews are often of much lesser quality. Not just the guest on the phone but also Mike himself
- Mike usually sounds credible. Except when he mispronounces very common baseball names. For instance, it’s Por-sell-o not Por-chell-o. Painful to hear Mike repeat his name 10 times in an episode.
- the cover art for this podcast is so ghetto. Please upgrade.

Balanced and Engaging Mets Content!

In a world where everyone is trying to get your clicks, journalists have becoming glorified ad salespeople, and everything is presented like the biggest story ever, Mike Silva emerges as a voice of calm and reason.

I became a baseball fan later than most, around 27 years old. While I didn’t grow up with it, I still feel just as passionately as any other fan and it shows at game time. But when I’m talking about baseball, I want to have a fair, objective conversation as much as I can. I’m not looking for water cooler complaining, I’m looking for intelligent insights into the team, the game, and everything in between. That’s exactly what you’ll get with this podcast.

Mike’s take is refreshing in his ability to not give into the daily ups and downs, but serve as a steady ship navigating the waters by presenting an objective, big-picture view of what’s going on each week. It’s a steadiness that carries through the season, treating each week as a small part of a larger progression. That steadiness makes this podcast a great place to “come home to” each week.

Also shout out to the great guests Mike brings on each week. They all bring different ideas to the podcast and it’s great to see the way the guests and Mike debate back and forth while being really respectful in their disagreements.

I’d give it 6 stars if I could.
