Ryan Shazier/ Walking Miracle
Ryan Shazier is a retired NFL linebacker who earned Pro Bowl honors for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shazier suffered a spinal cord injury while making a tackle on December 4, 2017. He was left a paraplegic, though after spinal stabilization surgery Shazier learned to walk again. Two years later, he effectively announced his retirement from football . The onetime star at the Ohio State University talked about his early development, college, and pro experiences and we talked about the injury, the rehabilitation , his faith, his struggles but quite a bit about his hopes and dreams . Coach Charles Saulter/ Don’t Flinch
Charles Saulter is the head football coach at Twinsburg high school in suburban Cleveland Ohio. He was recently named the winner of the Build the Bridge 2023 high school football coach of the year. Saulter became the first African-American head football coach in the Suburban League when he was hired in 2022. Note: he is a Canton Central Catholic alum, not Cleveland Central, as I mistakenly said early in the interview. @saulter_charles on X

Cameron Joyce/Hoops Family Affair
Cameron Joyce is the head coach of the St. Ignatius Wildcats State champion basketball team in Cleveland, Ohio. He just finished his 5th season and has already taken the Wildcats to the Final Four 3 times, with this years team winning it all.
Joyce is the son of legendary Akron St. Vincent St. Mary coach Dru Joyce II. His older brother Dru was just named the head coach at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Cam talked about his Dads, and brothers influences and on what it was like watching his big brother play ball with LeBron James. How did Joyce remake his 23-24 Wildcats team this year that featured constant pressure and tempo? And what aspects of the environment at St. Ignatius aided Joyce and his team to be successful. Tom Withers has been the Associated Press sports writer in Cleveland, Ohio for the better part of three decades. He has scored numerous scoops and continues on a day-to-day basis as one of the most respected sports voices in the business. Before he became a full-time sports writer, Tom worked in what could be described as Ground Zero concerning the Aids epidemic in the late 1980s. How did that experience shape him? Andre Bernier is a multi Emmy award-winning meteorologist at WJW Fox 8 in Cleveland Ohio. He is also an ordained pastor, and has served as an interim pastor at several NEOhio churches over the years. Bernier has done more than 600 episodes to date of his very popular Weather Jazz podcast. www.weatherjazz.com Andre is a product of New Bedford, Massachusetts, and began his TV career right out of college in 1981 with KGAN TV in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Fantastic Podcast!
I had the pleasure of getting to know JT during my decade in Cleveland radio… He has always been the classiest of the classy among reporters, journalists and talking heads.
What he’s doing is such a stark contrast to today’s opinion-based “hot take” content business. Instead, John takes us beyond the surface with many fascinating individuals in and around the Cleveland sports and media scene. Some guests you probably know, some you probably don’t - but all of them have an interesting story that’s worth listening to.
I really do enjoy JT’s deep-dive interviews. Everyone has a story and John does such a fantastic job of helping his guests tell their’s. Top-notch podcast. Thanks for delivering it, JT!

John negotiates the interviews in this podcast with the same passion that he covered sports in Northeast Ohio with Fox 8 for over 40 years. His personable manner has an innate way of truly connecting with his guest on another level. When you tune in to Telich Talks, it’s almost as if you’re pulling up a chair and sitting at the table with John and his guest, rather than being a passive listener. The hiatus of Telich Talks over the past year or so just makes us realize now what we were missing. Keep up the great work JT, it’s very much appreciated!
