202 episodes

A lighthearted conversation by runners about their lives as runners and the issues that are interesting or important to them and guests of the show. TJM is meant to be a companion to you as you run. Think of us as your running partners on days when you just need some friends to get you out on an easy run. The show is composed of 10 segments, one for each mile, and every 10 minutes or so we move on to the next topic, to keep things interesting. Among the hosts' experience are ten 100-mile finishes, dozens of half and full marathons, plenty of 50-milers, and some speedy 5ks and a BQ (and a handful of DNFs).

Your host, Scotty Kummer is an attorney, doberman owner and quite possibly the most painstakingly average runner known to man. Scott has stumbled through numerous plus 4 and 5 hour marathons. He's DNF'ed the 150 mile, 100 mile, 50 mile and marathon distance. Okay, and he is a member of the Order of the Hrimthurs for having completed the Arrowhead 135, the Tuscobia 160 and the Actif Epica 120K in the same calendar year (more people have walked on the moon) as well as finshed 50+ ultramarathons including several 100 mile races. He was once kicked out of an ultra runing group due to allegations of cyber-bullying. He has a habit of offending people by accident while trying to help them. He is a co-founder of the Flatlander Ultrarunners in Chicagoland which has rapidly grown to over 2000 members. He came up with the idea for Ten Junk Miles after becoming frustrated with hearing interview after interview of Scott Jurek and deciding that runners needed more: more discussions of bathroom breaks that went wrong, pacer stories from hell, DNF reports, stories of getting lost on the trail and other related matters.

Worth the listen

Long time listener, first time reviewer! I'm a little SCITED to write this. On one hand I'm helping out the podcast just a little, but on the other Scotty and the crew may call me out for listening so long before submitting a review.

Since I'm only allowed to leave a single review, please consider each point below one of five separate one-star reviews, rather than a single five-star review:

1. The revolving doors leading to Boulder that bring new, fun, voices to the show is just good pod.
2. Episode 2. A flawless gem. The guest host and jokes are the stuff of legend, and the production value is truly peerless.
3. Guest hosts that range from obscure to legendary, from salty to terrifying (how does he know who will die??).
4. Penises are everywhere. I defy you to find a non penis-centric podcast that talks more about penises.
5. I'll just put a pin in this one - but I probably won't ever come back to it. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

All in all, the best runners podcast on (or is it "in"?) the internet. Grab a Clamato, some funky flavors of potato chips, and enjoy the run!

And one more thing: Roach to the coach.

Can’t stop listening

Alright you all finally got me to drop some stars and review the podcast. I decided to jump onto the ultra crazy train and discovered the badger trail run coming this year. While I was on the race page I saw the TJM crew and decided to listen to a cast. First time listening I was just sitting in the car and didn’t understand the concept. Next time I decided to do it on my gifts training run for my ultra and immediately found my new favorite way to pass time on my runs. The gang is so funny I love the opinions and the discussion. Thank you for keeping me engaged and getting me more pumped to cross the finish line. See you in the tunnel

Just like having your own running crew

TJM is like taking along a group of friends on a run. There’s a great mix of banter, actual running talk, and good times. I love listening to them as I go out for my longer runs.
