    Psalm 58: The Judges' Job

    Psalm 58 (NKJV)

    Psalm 58: Do Not Destroy

    Psalm 58: Do Not Destroy

    Psalm 58 (ESV)

Andrew and Edwin take a closer look at the ancient heading supplied with Psalm 58. They especially home in on the popular tune "Do Not Destroy." This tune seems to completely contrast with the tune.

Psalm 57: In the Storm with God

Psalm 57: In the Storm with God

    Psalm 57 (NIV)

Andrew and Edwin find Jesus in Psalm 57 by remembering another storm. In Mark 4, the disciples found themselves in a destructive storm. They cried out to someone. That someone calmed the storm and delivered them. They asked, "Who is this that even the winds and the waves obey him?" Psalm 57 answers: "God Most High." That's Jesus.

Psalm 57: Strength to Stand Steadfast

Psalm 57: Strength to Stand Steadfast

    Psalm 57 (New Century Version)

Andrew and Edwin get a bit nerdy in today's conversation, noticing a specific sentence structure repeated between vs. 1 and vs. 7. (Don't go to sleep, this is cool.) They recognize a call and response. That is, they see David call out in prayer for mercy and God respond by making him strong and steadfast. Certainly, God promises deliverance. However, while we wait for that coming deliverance we really need strength to stand steadfast in the face of the enemies. God responds. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 57: As in Heaven, so Also on Earth

Psalm 57: As in Heaven, so Also on Earth

    Psalm 57 (NASB95)

Andrew and Edwin compare David's prayer to Jesus's famous model prayer. The connection is about bringing the glory of God from heaven to earth. They make a special point about our own agency and involvement. If God's glory should fill the earth, where should it start? With us.

    Psalm 57: Lying among Lions

    Psalm 57: Lying among Lions

    Psalm 57 (NKJV)

Andrew and Edwin discover a recurring image in the Psalms: enemies with knife, spear, and sword infested mouths. Of course, the Psalmists speak metaphorically. Slander, gossip, plotting, threats hurt. David compares his enemies to the lions he faces in the wilderness. Though he goes to bed in danger, he wakes up to praise God. Our hosts compare this psalm to Daniel's very literal experience centuries later.

Love it

I oftentimes feel like Goldilocks when I’m looking for a Christian podcast to listen to…the tone of some are ”too harsh,” others are “too soft,” but this one is “just right” — as if you were sitting down to have coffee with someone while discussing the scriptures. I appreciate the laid-back conversational-type delivery and the way it helps me meditate on the Word. Thank you Text Talk! Keep up the great work!
