Following a $35-million upgrade in 2023, this facility is more efficient—and louder—than ever. Join us for an immersive audio tour of the sorting floor to hear how high-tech machinery separates our waste, followed by a deep-dive interview with Celia Furber, Community Relations & Sustainability Manager. We discuss how these upgrades help the North Bay reach its climate goals and what we, as consumers, can do to make the machines' jobs a little easier.    Correction: In the interview, Furber says that the carbon dioxide saved per year by recycling locally instead of long hauling to other regional processors is over one million tons. She misspoke and it is over one million pounds. From the home movies of 1970s Los Angeles to the front lines of modern photojournalism, Erik Castro’s life has always been framed by a lens. In this episode, host Michelle Marques sits down with the Sonoma County-based photographer to discuss his award-winning documentary, Creating A Photojournalist. They explore Castro's unique "double life" as a stay-at-home father and a freelance storyteller, diving deep into how his personal history shapes his professional eye. It is a moving conversation about the evolution of a career, the weight of memory, and the nature of truth.     Preserving Old Growth Forests in Sonoma County: Save the Redwoods League

    An additional 200 acres are being added to the 730-acre Harold Richardson Redwoods Reserve.   photo credit: The Coldwater Collective, courtesy of Save the Redwoods LeagueHarold Richardson Redwoods Reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife species, including the red-bellied newt.   For over a hundred years, Save the Redwoods League has been working to preserve old growth forests from southern Monterey County to the Oregon border. Host Michelle Marques talks with Jeff Stump, Director of Land Protection, about their new land acquisition in Sonoma County. Jeff shares details about the Harold Richardson Redwood Reserve, its expansion by 200 acres, and the League's efforts to open it to the public. Learn about the unique characteristics of coast redwoods, the diverse wildlife found in the reserve, and the League's collaboration with the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians.     Face to Face: Leading Overdose Reversals in Sonoma County

Host Michelle Marques talks with the Program Director and Digital Communications Director of Face to Face about their services and the recent news that in 2024, their non-profit was responsible for 2 out of every 3 drug overdose reversals in Sonoma County. This episode explores the education and distribution of naloxone, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses.     Creativity Over Celebrity: Learning About Comics at LUMACON

Organized by the Libraries of Petaluma (including Petaluma Regional Library, Casa Grande and Petaluma High School libraries), this annual event has spent over a decade fostering a love for manga, graphic novels, and comics. Taking place on January 31st at the Petaluma Community Center, LUMACON offers a unique twist on the standard comic convention. Instead of focusing on autographs and actors, the day is dedicated to hands-on fun and artistic expression.
