161: Braving It All: How to Process Grief & Loss with Dr. Neeta Bhushan

Alternate Title: Navigating Grief and Loss & Embracing Emotions and Healing

Quote: “It's okay to sit in the suck. It's okay to sit in the discomfort of those emotions. And, it's okay even if you're at the stage and you wanna numb it, you wanna distract, you wanna avoid, you wanna bury.” – Dr. Neeta Bhushan

    Summary:

Hey there, Brave Table family! In this episode, we're diving deep into a topic that's close to my heart: grief and loss. I've walked a LONG path with these emotions. In fact, I’d say I know them intimately. If you’re new here, my journey with both began after losing both of my parents and one of my brothers before I turned 19. That’s a lot for a young girl to handle.

In this heartfelt conversation, I share my journey and insights on how to deal with grief in all its forms. We'll talk about how our unresolved relationship with it can affect our connections with others and why it's crucial to address. I'll share how I've navigated various life stages, like motherhood, and how they impact our capacity for emotional availability.

We'll explore how grief isn't just about losing loved ones but also about losing parts of ourselves, friendships, and even those little things that mean the world to us.

In this episode I talk about…
Recognizing and honoring the multi-faceted forms of grief.
Acknowledging and supporting children in their grief processes.
Processing grief in relationships and navigating seasonal changes.
The ongoing nature of grief and the ways in which it can resurface unexpectedly.

However they arrive, by chance or by choice, grief and loss can be as tough to let go of as the people they’re associated with. I hope this episode encourages you to embrace your emotions, sit with discomfort, and allow yourself to feel and heal. Remember, you're not alone in this journey; you’ve got soul support.

159: 8 Signs You're in an Emotionally Unavailable Relationship with Dr. Neeta Bhushan

“Many times we will attract partners who are usually the opposite, usually because there is that polarity and that polarity breeds juicy attraction.” – Dr. Neeta Bhushan

In this episode of The Brave Table, I’m going to take you through the unmistakable markers that indicate an emotionally unfulfilling relationship. I’ve been there. I’ve done that. And, I want to make sure that you have the knowledge you need to make changes too!
We’re not going to bypass uncomfortable truths, though. We’ll explore the intriguing question of why we find ourselves drawn to partners who seem emotionally distant. In the words of Taylor Swift, “It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem it’s me!” But, we’re not going to sit in the suck. We'll uncover the roots of these dynamics, often stemming from our formative years and early experiences.

In this episode we talk about…
Why people with deep emotions often attract partners who are emotionally unavailable. Signs of emotional unavailability, including avoidance and deflection, increase conflict and decrease connection. Ways to improve relationships, strategies for addressing emotional unavailability ourselves or our partners.

Now, if you find yourself immersed in this dynamic—whether you opt to persist or let go—it’s so important to assume responsibility for your own emotional journey. Let's delve deeper to discover the path to fly forward…

158: Developing Radical Self-Awareness & Becoming the Healer Within with Lucas Salame

158: Developing Radical Self-Awareness & Becoming the Healer Within with Lucas Salame

“Social media is part of our world… So, we don’t realize we’re using it to numb. We don’t realize we’re needing this instant gratification to avoid our deepest wounds.” – Lucas Salame

This episode has been a long-time coming and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. After appearing on his podcast, The New Age Sage, I just knew that I had to bring Lucas Salame onto The Brave Table. Our conversation is raw, uncut, and most definitely courageous. For such a young man, Lucas shares deeply profound insights about owning emotions, shedding shame, and redefining masculinity. His transformational journey is inspiring for any generation. Let’s get into it!

In this episode, we talk about…
Recovering in isolation from drug addiction and seeking help after attempted suicide during traumatic times. Unpacking psychiatric misdiagnosis, electing for a cold turkey detox, and learning the how to’s of self-help. Acknowledging the detriments of instant gratification to the mental health of teens and young adults. Addressing shame and how the contradictions of societal expectations contribute to the wounding of men. Giving value based on function, or conditional love, and the trauma it creates in children.
After a life or death awakening experience, attempting suicide due to the side effects of over eight psychiatric medications, Lucas Salame had the choice to keep following the path of a drug addict or to pull himself out of darkness. He chose to address his inner wounds, move past the stigma of being labeled bipolar, and commit himself to deep contemplation.
Through prioritizing his health and well-being, as well as sharing his experiences with others, Lucas no longer uses drugs to escape. Instead, he channels his energy into what he believes is his true life’s purpose–being a voice and creating a community for those who have experienced mental health issues.
Lucas dedicates his time to providing an abundance of resources to assist those on the healing path though his show, The New Age Sage Podcast, and his expansive archive of written content.

157: Signs of a Dysregulated Nervous System & How to Regulate

“So, the brain wants familiarity, the brain wants the things that have over time felt good. So, we go to those things. We go to those things that are easy, that are in our field of view, the things that we have done in the past.” – Dr. Neeta Bhushan

The end of summer signals the start of school and changes that require flexibility during the  transition. It’s hard to get everyone on board. In this episode, I get real about my own experiences as a mother and the challenges of parenting, particularly during times of stress. The overwhelm and exhaustion felt by moms, dads, and kids alike are signals of the body's need for restoration. No one is immune from a dysregulated nervous system. Everyone deserves to regain balance and calm.

In this episode I talk about…
Seeking comfort through activities like binge-watching, aimless scrolling, or turning to food or alcohol. Recognizing the body's need for compassion through rest and self-care. Teaching children valuable skills for managing their own emotions and stress. Creating healthy rituals to regulate the nervous system and connect as a family.
