S6 Episode 14: Unlocking Coaching Creativity - A Conversation with Jill Salzman about her Graphic Novel

If you thought coaching had to be serious to be effective, meet Jill Salzman — who decided to write a coaching book as a graphic novel. A comic-style book about mindset blocks, fears, and what it really means to coach. Her purpose? To show that coaching isn’t just deep thinking — it’s also fun, relatable, and human. She wanted to challenge the idea that we need to be overly serious or “professional” to be credible. So she created five fictional characters — a superhero among them — who embody common excuses clients use: “I don’t have time,” “I’m too inexperienced,” and so on.    Through playful art and storytelling, she makes coaching accessible and engaging for everyone, even kids. What stands out? The notion that coaching doesn’t have to be a heavy, intimidating process. It can be light, joyful, and authentic — because that’s where real connection and transformation happen.Maybe that’s the point. Perhaps we need to remember that human connection — not perfection — is the core of coaching success.   The Big But Book https://amzn.to/3NkupL3 www.jillsalzman.com Contact: Contact Jill through Linked In https://www.linkedin.com/in/jillll/ Contact Claire by emailing info@3dcoaching.com  or check out our Substack where you can talk with other listeners. S6 Episode 9: Everything is Welcome in Coaching Supervision with Chris Paterson

Chris Paterson emailed Claire Pedrick:   I wonder if there is a podcast around the title “What can’t I bring to supervision?” which could be interesting to explore. My sense is that lots of coaches will have things that would be valuable for them to discuss but they either don’t trust their supervisor enough or don’t feel they would be allowed to discuss things that might not be directly related to their coaching practice. Of course, this comes down to the contracting between them and their supervisor and I wonder if a conversation which included examples of topics such as grief and loss, forgiveness, caring responsibilities, life events and choices might give coaches more permission to discuss what really matters to them in supervision rather than having to perform in some way.   Listen to find out more!   Resources & Links: Talk to Claire or Chris about coaching supervision The Road Less Travelled by M.
