Hi. I'm Candice Schutter. I started The Deeper Pulse podcast about a year into the pandemic when I was feeling lost and desperate for connection. I began with sharing personal stories, striving to make sense of life and my own stilted self-expression. In the process, I encountered some spiritual wounds and dove headfirst into the world of cult recovery, discovering that - not only did it hold the key to a door that I’d been banging on since I was a child - it may even offer us a way out of the royal mess we're making of this whole being human thing. On TDP, my guests and I talk about the everyday labor of self-expression, unpack what puts the 'cult' culture, and brave sweaty-palm truths to restore collective agency and self-dominion.

Revealing the shadows
This podcast is an important place to learn of underlying conditioning that affects us all. Inspiration from Candice and guests empowers me to speak up and call in when I notice harm being perpetuated.
Saying the quiet parts out loud
I’ve been closely following the discussions around the “culty” aspects of wellness since January 2020, mostly through various podcasts. The pandemic brought into high relief that I would begin a journey of untangling myself from the spiritual bypassing, grifting and magical thinking of the world(s) within which I turned (and in some ways still do) for many, many years as a massage therapist/educator, so-called natural therapeutics specialist, dance fitness instructor and daughter of hippies including a former Scientologist. What has been specifically helpful from The Deeper Pulse is the direct and specific connections I have with those who are or have been in one of the same groups as me. This has been very confirming and clarifying and I appreciate the bravery of all involved.
