We are seeing an ever-increasing burden of chronic disease, primarily driven by our food and food system. This is perpetuated by agricultural, food and health care policies that don’t support health. We need to rethink disease and reimagine a food system and a health care system the protects health, unburdens the economy from the weight of obesity and chronic disease, protects the environment, helps reverse climate change and creates a nation of healthy children and citizens. This podcast is a place for deep conversations about the critical issues of our time in the space of health, wellness, food and politics. New episodes are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. I hope you'll join me.

How Vitamin D Deficiency Impacts Your Mood, Immune Function, And Risk Of Disease
This episode is brought to you by. Rupa University, AG1, and Pendulum.
Up to 90 percent of the population have an inadequate intake of vitamin D and around 40 percent are deficient. Vitamin D, which works closely with magnesium, is a steroid hormone and is critical for proper immune function. It also helps support healthy inflammation levels and is important for supporting bone health, improving mood, reducing cancer risk, and reducing the severity of illnesses, including respiratory illnesses.
In today’s episode, I talk with Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Max Lugavere about why your vitamin D level matters and how to increase it.
Dr. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who practices Functional Medicine at The UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA. Through her practice and lecturing she has helped thousands of people achieve their goals of optimum health and wellness. She witnesses the power of nutrition every day in her practice and is committed to training other physicians to utilize nutrition in healing.
Max Lugavere is a health and science journalist and the author of the New York Times bestseller Genius Foods: Become Smarter, Happier, and More Productive While Protecting Your Brain for Life, now published in 10 languages around the globe. His sophomore book, also a bestseller, is called The Genius Life: Heal Your Mind, Strengthen Your Body, and Become Extraordinary. Max is the host of a number one iTunes health and wellness podcast called The Genius Life. His new cookbook, Genius Kitchen, just hit the shelves. Max appears regularly on The Dr. Oz Show, The Rachael Ray Show, and The Doctors. He has contributed to Medscape, Vice, Fast Company, CNN, and The Daily Beast and has been featured on NBC’s Nightly News and The Today Show and in the New York Times and People magazine. He is an internationally sought-after speaker and has given talks at South by Southwest, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Biohacker Summit in Stockholm, Sweden, and many others.

How Our Life Experiences Influence Our Gene Expression And Overall Health
This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Sensate, and Super Simple Protein.
Epigenetics is the study of how our environment and behavior can influence which of our genes are turned on or off. That’s right—we’re born with many different genes, but that does not mean they are all active. Genes can be activated or silenced from so many different things, like what you eat, how you move, and how you restore your system. Your thoughts, feelings, and social connections even regulate your genes too. You can turn on genes that create health or disease or weight gain or weight loss.
In today’s episode, I talk with Drs. Jeff Bland, Bruce Lipton, and Todd LePine about how environmental and lifestyle factors are significant determining factors of your health.
Dr. Jeff Bland is the founder of Big Bold Health, a company on a mission to transform the way people think about one of nature’s greatest innovations—the immune system. Through Big Bold Health, Jeff is advocating for the power of immuno-rejuvenation to enhance immunity at a global level, often through the rediscovery of ancient food crops and superfoods. Jeff’s career in health spans more than 40 years. A nutritional biochemist by training, he began in academia as a university professor. Jeff then spent three decades in the natural products industry, working alongside other pioneers.
Dr. Bruce Lipton is a stem cell biologist and author of the bestselling books The Biology of Belief, Spontaneous Evolution, and The Honeymoon Effect. Dr. Lipton is the recipient of the prestigious Japanese Goi Peace Award and has been listed in “the 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People” by Watkins Mind Body Spirit magazine for the last 13 years.
Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is board certified in internal medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. He is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. Prior to joining The UltraWellness Center, he worked as a physician at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, MA, for 10 years. Dr. LePine’s focus at The UltraWellness Center is to help his patients achieve optimal health and vitality by restoring the natural balance to both the mind and the body.

28 years young and learning a lot
I very much enjoy dr. Humans show. It has taught me a lot about how the body works. Loved him on fed up. Love his weekly emails. And love his east to comprehend way of giving us information to improve our health. I am beginning my health journey and don’t know much but know I appreciate functional medicine vs. how many doctors are quick to prescribe pharmaceuticals.
Breast Cancer Survivor from 2004
I’m 55 and a 19 year breast cancer survivor. I have always been interested in my health but at now I am becoming obsessed with reversing the aging process. I love reading your books and listening to your podcast. I share them with many others because I think the information is so important.
Great podcast, less background noise would be nice
Great health podcast, but listening to him breathing while his guest is talking is annoying
