    1. Andy Dunn, Founder of Bonobos, Shares his Bipolar Diagnosis with the World

    We always intended for Kosterina's Inquisitive Olive interview series to become a podcast and this powerful and important story inspired us to launch it now. In our inaugural episode, we dive deep on the topic of mental health with Andy Dunn. Andy co-founded the ecommerce-driven menswear brand Bonobos in 2007 and served as CEO through its 2017 $300M+ acquisition by Walmart. Andy is an angel investor and has backed more than eighty startups, including Warby Parker, Oscar, and Coinbase. Most recently Andy has authored his debut book -- a scintillating but also harrowing memoir called Burn Rate: Launching a Startup & Losing My Mind. Burn Rate tells the story of Andy's first bipolar diagnosis over 20 years ago, the details of his journey building Bonobos for over a decade and the moment when it almost all came crashing down, just before Walmart acquired his company. In our conversation, Andy reveals why he kept his diagnosis from so many for so long and how he even hid it from himself. He paints the picture of mania, hypomania and depression with vivid examples and tells us why he is sharing his story now. Andy shares his routines for wellness and how sleep, therapy, food and well-prescribed medication are critical parts of maintaining a sound mind. In this discussion, we learned that mental illness is often linked to entrepreneurship and get Andy's thoughts on why. Andy is a longtime friend of Kosterina and in this conversation we get a raw look inside the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur who has struggled deeply to become the incredible success he is today.
