Jenna Ortega interview is spectacular
26 ago
This show has incredible range. One minute I’m hearing from a Republican lawmaker who tried (really) to solve our immigration crisis, and the next I’m falling in love with an actress who is not my demographic but who seems so grounded and mature that I’ll watch everything she’s in for the rest of her/my life. I end up LIKING everyone I hear on this show. This is a nearly impossible thing to pull off, and I think many people underestimate how much it matters. (Both hosts get it though; they are uniquely non-judgmental.) With this latest interview The Interview proved it has found its legs.
Odd interview style
30 sept
I always end up feeling a bit awkward while listening to this podcast. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel the interview style always seems to press the guest, and puts them on the defense. But unnecessarily so. The recent episode with John Oliver is a great example, whether he considers himself a “journalist” or not?? Ended up consuming the entire interview, and I just kept wondering is this really the most important question? I’ve felt this same vibe before with past episodes too. It makes me miss the great interviews with Terry Gross.
The Interrogation
28 sept
I’ve only listened 2 of these, one a while back with Charlemagne Tha God and the latest with John Oliver. There seem to have been no improvement with the interviewer, who strongarm most of her questions and tried every which way to bait a desired answer. Given the amount of deceptive and sometimes outright false coverages of NYT of the past few months, it’s sadly a norm prevailing their podcasts too. What a joke to keep questioning Last Week Tonight’s factual integrity when they’ve done much better job than most corporate media, including the NYT.
David, why are you like this?

I’m going to start skipping David’s week. He’s so judgmental and def not a good interviewer.
