On December 7th, 2022, Germany witnessed one of its largest counter-terrorism operations of the post-war era. Over 3000 security officers searched 150 homes and arrested multiple people who had planned to violently infiltrade the German parliament, topple the democratic order and elevate a minor noble to the position of monarch. Strap in as we dissect this coup-attempt and the various (self-declared) kingdoms that exist within Germany.

35.000 soldiers, part government troops, part Freikorps stand ready to storm ahead and snuff out the revolutionaries controlling the city. While they load bombs onto their airplanes and fuel up british tanks captured during the war, they start painting skulls and swastikas on their steel helmets.

Deeply personal and human look at German history
What Dan Arrows does here is truly unique and captivating. He describes the experiences and pain of average Germans in the interwar era while also not losing grasp of the larger picture. This podcast makes you empathize with the past and with the people of the time who who were just fighting to live their lives. It’s tragic to view these events with knowledge of what came after. As opposed to viewing the rise of Nazism as inevitable, Arrows emphasizes the people who fought against it and explains in detail what influences the Nazi’s unfortunate success.

We came for the German history lessons. Not your low-IQ, Blue Anon conspiracy theory takes on American politics.
Your current events perspective seems to be copy-paste direct from Reddit Democrats for Socialism. There’s nothing novel or original. If we wanted that we would turn the tv to MSNBC. For someone who has such a deep understanding of 1920s politics, it’s sad to see them rabidly repeating every bit of regime propaganda the DNC prints.
Come for the Weimar Republic, groan over the amateur analysis of current events
This podcast presents itself as a history of the troubles of the Weimar Republic, which is great! We need more accessible content about this time period in the Anglosphere! When Dan decides to cover the Weimar era, it’s excellent and one of the best history podcasts out there. Unfortunately, Dan seems more focused on current events and issues, which he has little expertise for, particularly American politics. This would be tolerable if such occurrences were rare, and did not delay output for the main reason people subscribe, but as of lately, it seems Dan wishes to hear this podcast more towards current events. And that’s fine if that’s the direction the creator wants to take with podcasting, but perhaps break that off into a different show / RSS feed so my hopes aren’t crushed every time I get a notification of a new upload.
