The Journey with Jared

The Journey with Jared Podcast

Starting with a quarter life crisis and ending with hitting the reset button on my life, I found myself questioning everything that I thought I knew. Documenting this quest for answers through a podcast I explore topics on mental health, self improvement, and much more. I do this through talking to others about their journeys (Journeys), deep dives into specific topics (Pit Stops), and sharing other conversations that I’m a part of.

The Different Ways Grief Shows Up | Journey 40 w/Vivian Nunez

On this episode I’m joined by Vivian Nunez, a writer and content creator. We begin by discussing Vivian’s platform and what led her to start it, talking about grief and the difference between grieving at ten versus twenty-one. Continuing on grief, we talk about how grief for every person is different and shows up differently for every loss. I then ask Vivian what she would recommend to someone supporting someone else who is grieving. Afterwards we talk about how accomplishment varies for each person on a daily basis – for some, it’s just getting out of bed, for others it can look much different. The next subject of our conversation is balance; how balance can look different, and be more flexible than simply “everything is equal” at all times. We then discuss the practice of taking care of ourselves, and how difficult it can be when you’re accustomed to taking care of others instead. We also talk about social media and how it’s actually helped the conversation around mental health grow. Vivian also recounts this impactful quote from one of her friends; “I can’t turn on the light, but I can sit with you in the dark.” Links to Vivian’s Instagram, TikTok, and Website! A Conversation on Mental Health and Toxic Masculinity | Journey 39 w/ Ryan Forsyth

On this episode, I’m joined by Ryan Forsyth an award-winning mental health speaker and advocate, and the host of Life in Red Podcast. We begin by getting some insight into Ryan’s life, and what led him to become an advocate in the first place, then we talk about the importance of reaching out to someone when you’re carrying a weight by yourself, before discussing how to balance the pressure of sharing with healthy boundaries. Next, we talk about the desire to belong, and the ‘why’ behind what we do. We then discuss niches and authenticity, and then move on to toxic masculinity and what makes it ‘toxic.’ Then we talk about activism and intergenerational trauma, and how trauma itself is not a competition. Finally, I ask Ryan about his experience discussing polarizing topics. Links to Ryan’s Podcast, Social Media, and Website! Finding the common ground between all of us | Journey 35 w/ Mike Joseph

On this episode, I’m joined by Mike Joseph, born and raised in New York City, Mike is the host of two podcasts and a radio show, a mental health advocate and activist, and a wellness and sexuality educator. We begin by talking about what led Mike to go to therapy in the first place, and the importance of not feeling alone in these experiences. We then talk about both of our experiences sharing our stories around mental health, and I ask Mike where his instinct to challenge what masculinity means came from. Mike jumps into talking about fear around being ourselves, and I bring up the commonalities that exist between all of us, despite our differences. We then discuss the fear around being a parent, and how everyone’s stories are completely unique. We finish up by talking a bit about sexuality and polyamory, and the importance of asking yourself ‘why.’ Links to Mike’s twitter, instagram, and podcast!
