Sometimes You Have To Let It Hurt

Sometimes You Have To Let It Hurt

Facing emotional pain and grief is incredibly hard.

I spent years running from my childhood grief, thinking time would magically fix everything. But avoiding pain only prolongs the suffering and stunts our growth.

It's understandable to want to avoid it, ignore it, run from it. The reality is, sometimes facing that pain, trauma, or grief turns out to be as bad as you think it will be.

The critical thing here is that you do force yourself to face it, feel it, and work through it. It's going to sting and hurt. Sometimes you have to let it hurt to heal.

Disentangling Your Thought Patterns Using FTP

Disentangling Your Thought Patterns Using FTP

Thought patterns don't define you, and they're not fixed. The thing about depression is it traps you in narrow, repetitive thinking.

Your thinking is actually quite malleable. But reshaping your thoughts, often takes a lot more than just trying to think differently.

I'm talking with Dr. Moshe Bar of Hedonia about how they've been able to gamify Facilitating Thought Progression (FTP) in order to rewrite thought patterns.

I'm all-in on alternative, science-based methods for managing depression and anxiety. We explore how gaming can reshape cognitive patterns, improve mood, and complement both therapy and medication.

I have partnered with Hedonia, and both believe in, and regularly use their app-based game for depression and anxiety, Mood Bloom.

You’re Doing A Better Job Than You Think

You’re Doing A Better Job Than You Think

Your life isn't failing; it's just stretched thin.

This is not a cliche, empty reassurance, or toxic positivity: you're probably doing better than you give yourself credit for.

Think of yourself as a distribution manager with limited resources. You're juggling work, relationships, health, and home - all demanding more than you can give.

More than likely, you're using an incorrect metric to measure how well you're doing. I'm going to explain how to measure your success more accurately and feel good about your efforts.

What To Do When Your Empathy Becomes A Disability

What To Do When Your Empathy Becomes A Disability

Our world is built on the ability of individuals to function socially (for better or worse). So what happens when your default social functioning differs from the norm?

In the case of empathy, differing from the norm - both with "too much" or "too little" empathy - can have a disabling effect.

Mental Health You Can Understand

I just went back and listened to the episode on 2/5/23. Recently, in the past couple of months I have been told by my therapist that she just doesn’t know what else there is to try, that we’ve tried just about everything. The moment she said that, nothing else she said even remotely connected with me. It killed me. It still does kill me inside thinking about it. Listening to this podcast and specifically the episode on 2/6/23 I think is a huge turning point for me. There is hope. I haven’t tried everything.

Today I just changed therapist and will see how it goes.

Thank you Dr. Scott

Very sincere, helpful, practical and insightful

Such a good series with very clear applicable wisdom and techniques. No clickbait, no courses/ classes/ trainings or other expensive upper level content being pushed. This is the kind of podcast you wish other psychology podcasts were like, but it definitely speaks to a specific type of person and isn’t trying to be a general audience podcast , which is why it is so helpful to the people who click with it.

Great pod, too many ads

I love the podcast but I find it really annoying that In a 15 min podcast you have 4-6 ad breaks. It makes it hard to stay in it and focused. I think a longer ad break less frequently would be a better solution. That is just my opinion, might be the only one but thought I would share.
