"Yes, And" How Improv Can Improve Your Next SEO Sales Pitch with Derek Hobson

Do you break out in a cool sweat when thinking of SEO sales pitches? We’ve all been there. On both sides, whether you’re giving a pitch or reviewing one and it doesn’t go to plan and you want the ground to open up and swallow you up. What if I told you that improv can help? I am not bonkers, bear with me. Derek Hobson joins the podcast to talk about this very topic. He shares the best and worst experiences he’s had and how the rules of improv can be applied to make pitching easier and more successful. He also gives you one thing to implement next time you pitch - to help you success. About Derek Derek Hobson is an SEO humorist and digital marketer, working in agencies and in-house across the US and — most recently — in the Netherlands. The only thing spanning longer than his search career is his background in improv, which ultimately prepared him for the most demanding audience (children’s attention): serving as a maritime historical reenactor (read: pirate) aboard the brig Pilgrim in Dana Point. How to Better Deal with Imposter Syndrome with Dhea Mohammed

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a cure for imposter syndrome? We all have to deal with it - it sneaks up time and time again. And the funny thing is, how can you be an imposter to something that you’ve been invited to? Most of the times we struggle with it, we’ve been invited to contribute or definitely have a right to be there. This week I have Dhea Mohammed joining me on the podcast to talk about this very topic. She shares how it shows up for her, when she realised it was a thing, what she has learned about imposter syndrome, and of course, practical tips you can implement to help you navigate it better. About Dhea Dhea Mohammed is a full time digital marketer. She grew up hanging out after school in my parents' marketing agency in Indonesia. She didn’t realise it then, but Dhea was absorbing the foundations of the industry like a sponge. She currently works as Paid Search and Paid Social Executive, and Data & Analytics Lead at Forrest Digital. Outside of work, she volunteers with Teesside Mind and creates content exploring what it means to truly live and enjoy your days, a personal development project close to her heart. What Search Tells us about Human Behaviour with Steve Paine

The questions we type into Google say more about us than the things we say out loud, and this is certainly true on sensitive topics such as stress and burnout. Search data shows us what people are looking for, what they’re worried about, what they’re struggling with, and how our behaviour is shifting in ways we don’t always notice. In this episode Steve Paine and Tazmin talk about what this data reveals about human psychology. They discuss the changing information habits, and what two decades of search data tells us about how work, attention, and wellbeing have evolved. About Steve Steve is the English-language marketing manager, technical and copy editor at SISTRIX and he oversees the end-end process for all of the knowledge and data journalism content. “We use a journalistic approach to crafting useful, high-quality stories from our data.” Steve has a very long history in online content dating back to before the web was born.
