Then press reviews on Trumps threat to pull out of NATO and how that is uniting Europe. France 24 has a reporter in Tehran who gives a daily summary of airstrikes and damage to non-military targets. Scoop is a weekly talk show discussing media with host William Hilderbrandt. This weeks show was an interview with renowned Israeli journalist Gideon Levy- he talks about media censorship in Israel and other countries especially about war and self-censorship. From GERMANY- DWs Sarah Kelly talks with Misha Komadovsky about Trumps claim that the new president of Iran asked him for a ceasefire. She also speaks with Fawas Gerges about Trumps claims and the new situation where Iran controls shipping in the strait of Hormuz. From JAPAN- Japan and the EU have agreed to strengthen cooperation in security and defense industries. The Japanese Defense Ministry is deploying extended range missiles to its camps, a major shift in security policy. From CUBA- On Tuesday a Russian oil tanker began unloading 100,000 tons of crude oil despite the threats from the US. Mexican President Sheinbaum said her country is working to resume oil shipments to Cuba- she also disclosed that she personally donated $1000 in a campaign to purchase resources for the Cuban people. An Israeli airstrike targeted a clearly marked press car in Lebanon, killing all 3 journalists on board. An estimated 8 million people participated in last Saturdays No Kings Day protests, the largest single day protest in US history. Iran and the US rejected each others ceasefire proposals. There is little evidence that the war is winding down soon. He discusses why the original agreement failed, and if there is an offramp from the war being prepared. From JAPAN- Australia and the EU have concluded talks on a free trade agreement, which will remove almost all tariffs between them. Ukraine announced attacks on key Russian oil facilities, including one 1400 KM from the border- Russia retaliated by attacking the Ukrainian defense industry. The Foreign Ministers of China and Iran spoke by phone on Tuesday, with China recommending negotiations. From FRANCE- It appears that some investors used insider trading information to buy a half a billion dollars of oil stock short on Monday just 15 minutes before Trump posted that the war was winding down, causing the price to drop 14%. The cost of oil has led many countries to further invest in renewables- but the US returned nearly a billion dollars to French company TotalEnergies to drop its plans to build windfarms off the US Eastern Coast. From CUBA- Cuba has been on the air this week. Mexican President Sheinbaum gave her support to the flotillas bringing aid to Cuba, including using a ship to protect them at sea, and says she is working to find a way to get fuel to the country. Codepink with 140 people was successful in bringing aid to Havana, and on Tuesday a Mexican tuna boat delivered 30 tons of humanitarian aid. The US has been working to impede the renowned international Cuban Medical Brigades from doing their lifesaving work in Latin America.     This week's show begins with analysis os Israeli attacks on Lebanon and a million civilians displaced, more immigrants will be heading to Europe, Iran had agreed to UN nuclear inspections the day before Israel and the US began bombing, what is happening in Cuba with power failure and what is Trumps plan, and convoys from Europe and the US are arriving with medical supplies for Cuba. Israel has been attacking Lebanon, partly in retaliation for Hezbollah attacks since the war on Iran. One thousand Lebanese civilians have been killed and one million are displaced from their homes. Now Israel has escalated the bombing to include Beirut. Fawaz describers the Israeli action as collective punishment, and explains that Hezbollah is not simply a paramilitary group but a political and social movement as well. Also he says that people fleeing war zones in the recent past have ended up immigrating to European countries, where they are not welcome. From FRANCE- 3 press reviews. The first is about the Belgian PM who suggests that Europe should normalize relations from Russia to help secure cheaper energy. Then press reactions to Trump suggesting that allies join the US military in the war on Iran. The Guardian had an article about the UK representative at the US Iran talks in Geneva before the US and Israel attacked Iran- he says Iran had made concessions on UN nuclear inspections at the talks. Cuba lost all electrical power on Monday and Tuesday this week just as Trump bragged that he will take the country over. Christopher Sabatini, a senior fellow for Latin America at Chatham House, explains why the power grid failed and some of the effects which he calls a humanitarian crisis. Christopher talks about Trumps motivations for imposing a regime change, including possible tourism/casino development, not unlike his Gaza Strip plans. From CUBA- Cuba was off the air Monday and Tuesday but had the power up on Wednesday. Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel denounced the repeated public threats made by the US, including plans to seize the country- through sanctions and now a fuel blockade. He says Cuba is open to working with American companies as well as Cubans residing in the US. A European Solidarity Convoy arrived in Cuba Wednesday night bringing 5 tons of medical supplies- the hundred members include Parliamentarians, activists, youth and trade union leaders- they will meet up with a convoy from Miami arriving by air, land and sea on Saturday. The Trump administration approved a $5 billion oil project in the Gulf of Mexico by BP, who created the 2010 deepwater horizon disaster. Greenpeace says they have evidence of illegal deep-sea mining exploration by US company TMC or The Metals Company. An interview with Rouzbeh Parsi, a professor in Sweden about US and Iranian strategies in the ongoing war. From CUBA- On International Womens Day in an Amazonian town in Ecuador, indigenous tribes asked that nature be preserved. The US and Ecuador announced plans to bomb alleged drug traffickers near the Colombian border. The US killed another 6 alleged drug carriers on a boat in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Trump met with the right-wing leaders of 12 Latin American countries forming a military coalition called "Shield of the Americas." Nearly 700,000 Lebanese have been forced to flee their homes from Israeli bombs- Israeli attacks in Gaza continue. In London more than 50,000 protestors marched on the US embassy. From JAPAN- It is the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and decommissioning will not be achieved until 2051. In Nepal the youth have succeeded in electing a 35 year old rapper, Balendra Shah, to be the new Prime Minister. Indonesia is joining many other countries in banning social media for children under 16. From FRANCE- The press reviews were informative all week but we will listen to Monday stories from the Middle East and Europe on the war on Iran. Trump threatened Spain after they refused the US military use of their bases, and President Sanchez replied. The US oil and fuel embargo on Cuba has left them with little electricity, no radio or television, and almost no transportation. From CUBA- Mexican President Sheinbaum reaffirmed her countrys commitment to supply aid to Cuba. The 10th anniversary of the murder of Honduran indigenous environmental activist Berta Caceres was acknowledged by Cuba. On Monday the Secretary of Iran's Security Council reminded the world that his country did not initiate the war with Israel and the US, which began shortly after mediators hailed a breakthrough with Iran agreeing to zero stockpiling of uranium at talks in Geneva. From JAPAN- Japan is considering burying high level radioactive waste in an island their most eastern holding in the Pacific Ocean. French President Macron announced plans to increase his countrys number of nuclear warheads- France currently has 290 nuclear weapons. The Chinese Foreign Minister discussed the war on Iran with the Iranian Foreign Minister. The death toll of the schoolgirls in the missile strike in Iran rose to 171. The American Society of International Law has expressed concern about the Israel/US war now expanding across the Middle East. A UN fact finding mission has stronly condemned the US/Israeli strikes on Iran, calling for an immediate halt to attacks by all parties.
