Ayahuasca as a Pathway to Sobriety
In this episode, Kate and Steph talk to Sapha, who, after years of addiction and severe depression, finally got sober after an unexpected hallucinogenic encounter. He now runs a retreat in the Peruvian Amazon helping people with their recovery using knowledge and wisdom cultivated through years of working closely with Ayahuasca. He provides a fascinating insight into the integration of plant medicine within the context of addiction recovery, sharing firsthand experiences and the ‘spiritual awakening’ that led him to where he is today.

Rethinking Rock Bottom
Some of us quit drinking because we recognise it’s become a problem for us, but what if others say you didn’t have a problem? And you didn’t even have a rock bottom? Do we need to be in the gutter, or jail, before people accept we have a bad relationship with alcohol? A high bottom is still a bottom. You get to decide when drinking becomes a problem. Nobody else.

Customer Reviews
I look forward to Mondays to see if a new episode has dropped!
Kate and Steph are refreshingly honest, introspective, and curious about themselves and their individual sobriety journeys.
Layer that on top of interesting guests and insightful ways to approach a podcast and it’s pure gold.
I was so excited that their first guest was a moderate drinker so that they could gently show the differences between those of us who struggle to stop at 1 or 2 and those who don’t. How genius!
And then this most recent episode of Sam was brilliant. Getting the take on a single father’s viewpoint of sobriety and how he continues to take accountability and action in his relationship with his girls is inspiring.
I can’t say enough good things about The Sober Effect. Take a listen now - I know you’ll love it!
Beautifully Supportive
