    55. An Introduction to a Modern Class of Casting Visionaries- Featuring Erica S. Bream

We loved shining a light on the absolutely wonder Erica Bream. She is a gem in the casting community, who genuinely adores actors and the opportunity to collaborate with them. Whether it's in a formal audition setting, coaching or teaching audition technique...anyone with eyes can see her love of actors.

ERICA S. BREAM has worked a Casting Director on projects across all mediums, including on titles such as ECHOES (Netflix), DOLLY PARTON’S MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS (NBC), THE WINCHESTERS (CW), ALTERED CARBON (Netflix), 11:22.63 (Hulu), PANHANDLE (Spectrum) and many others. Notably, Bream has co-cast sixteen seasons of the prestigious Young Playwrights Festival for The Blank Theatre Company. Over the years, Bream’s work in theatre, short film and television casting has garnered her nine Artios nominations and a win in the Los Angeles Theatre category.

We are so thrilled to welcome the extremely talented manager, Brandon Bisig to Tipsy Casting!

Brandon Bisig was born and raised in Southwest Michigan.  He studied Finance and Statistics at Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, OH.  Post graduation he went on to a career in consulting at Accenture Consulting, but that was short lived as he decided to pursue his passion in Film and Television.  After moving to NYC, Brandon worked odd jobs in a number of different sectors of the industry before working for Fred Zollo, Vince P. Maggio and Barbara Broccoli.  It was there where Brandon met manager Russ Lyster which sparked his interest in Management.  Brandon moved to Los Angeles where he started as an assistant and worked his way up at Thruline Entertainment where he spent 12 years and honed his craft before  joining Canopy Media Partners.

    52. A Tipsy Conversation with Creature Creator and Animatronics Expert - Alec Gillis!

    52. A Tipsy Conversation with Creature Creator and Animatronics Expert - Alec Gillis!

Alec Gillis grew up in Orange County, California within sight of the Disneyland fireworks show. As a kid he roamed the mean streets of Main Street Disneyland, It was here he gained a lifelong appreciation of animatronics, but it was in the local movie theatres that he fell in love with genre films. At age 20 Gillis began working for Roger Corman on a film called BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, along with James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. After working for various Makeup Effects luminaries such as Tom Savini and Greg Cannom,  Gillis was recommended by James Cameron to Stan Winston, where Gillis worked on effects for classic films such as ALIENS and PREDATOR. In 1988 he co-founded Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (ADI) with Tom Woodruff, Jr. TREMORS was the company’s first feature, and the film’s giant subterranean worms gained Gillis notoriety.

The duo’s work garnered Oscar nominations for STARSHIP TROOPERS, ALIEN 3 and won for DEATH BECOMES HER. Gillis has won numerous other awards such as BAFTAs and SATURNs.  His work has been seen in BRIGHT, IT 1 and 2, and currently the Disney/Fox Predator feature PREY, directed by Dan Trachtenberg. During his 3 decades with ADI, Gillis has also written numerous screenplays, written 3 books and produced/directed a feature film, HARBINGER DOWN.

His new solo company, Studio Gillis, will continue the tradition Gillis is known for of high-quality Creature, Make Up and Practical Effects.

    In this episode we discuss:

Alec's unique way of ending up entering in the industry
How his passion for scary movies and monsters as a child became a dream job
Coming up with James Cameron and a fun full circle moment
The ins and outs of how they make monsters and creatures from start to finish
How technology has contributed and changed his job throughout the years
He talks about his foray into directing and acting
    His favorite monster and experience
Alec discusses how his whole family has become an industry family (despite his best efforts :))

Wish I could have a drink with y’all!

I listen to the show while I’m driving, so I can’t. lol! This show tears down that mystical wall that shrouds the world of casting. As an actor, I used to literally tremble at the doors of a casting director since I worshipped them as the gate keepers to my dream. While they still are in a way, this show humanizes the industry. Casting directors have a lot of the same struggles that we have as actors. Casting directors aren’t going to blacklist you forever if you have a bad audition. They aren’t making fun of you behind your back, and they really want to help you give the best audition possible because you doing well makes them look even better at their job! Cheers to this show and next time I’m in your town, (LA OR LONDON) I’m treating y'all to a drink!

Can sift for gems through bad cultural takes

Info is helpful for casting in the US and UK. They complained in their latest episode about bringing “politics” into the Oscars — any mention of politics — um, the personal is political and art is pretty personal. “I don’t need to see Florence Pugh’s nipples anymore” <<< actual quote from this podcast. “But you don’t see Emilia Clarke running around with her business out and we’ve all seen her naked on Game of Thrones.” Leave the fashion commentary to people who don’t shame others for what they wear and how they act. Basically, ignore the clueless chit-chat but there are gems to be found… become one with the fast forward button!

Cheers to Tipsy Casting!

I love this podcast. It’s filled with interesting stories, good advice and best of all- honesty.

Jenn and Jessica are likable and funny. It’s like having a conversation with your friends, but they actually know the business. I have to go back to listen to some of them again, and take notes- that’s how good it is. Actors and anyone in the business should listen. There are some funny stories, so I think anyone interested in hollywood would find this enjoyable and eye opening.
