Sometimes a missing person leaves being next to nothing- in this instance- a single shoe on the side of the highway. There were no witnesses, no signs, no clues to indicate where she may have gone. And then, police get a call from an Angel, and it changes the direction of the case, leading to not only the body of Sherry Arnold, but who killed her. The outdoors are a beautiful that can be filled with light and bliss and many different ways to bring yourself closer to those you love and yourself. But they can also be filled with terror and death, imminent and oppressive. Join me as we dig into these stories that inspire you to be just a little bit more careful while you’re in the outdoors. It sounds like something out of a movie: a fall from 33,000 feet in the air. Being tucked into exactly the right place so that when the Douglas DC 9 hit the ground, you were… protected. Saved. Surviving one of the most astonishing events in history. For when a plane falls out of the sky, it is known to be an unsurvivable event. Vesna Vulovic got to live through the experience, and become the Guinness world record holder for surviving the longest fall without a parachute. The outdoors are a beautiful that can be filled with light and bliss and many different ways to bring yourself closer to those you love and yourself. It was a case of corruption, coercion, mistaken identity and desperation. When a business man approached small, struggling companies, offering their owners loans, those that accepted the help found themselves under a crippling payment, a life insurance policy hanging over their heads, and murder. Jane Carver was wholly uninvolved, but her death came from being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and liking the same activities as the intended target. The outdoors are a beautiful that can be filled with light and bliss and many different ways to bring yourself closer to those you love and yourself. 131 | Shattered and Alone: Claire Nelson

Setting off into nature on your own can be both exhilarating and terrifying. When you are on your own, the only person or being you have to look after is yourself. The worries fall away and responsibilities ebb, leaving the path for peace and quiet wide open. But what being on your own also means is if things go wrong, there is no one to lean on, no one to help you, and no one to call. On [May 22, 2018] Clair Nelson sets off into Joshua Tree National Park for an adventure on her own, and learns the hard way how badly things can go. In August of 2000, 4 American rock climbers made their way into the Pamir Alai Mountains in Kyrgyzstan on what was supposed to be a 6 week climbing adventure. What they didn’t know was that adventure was about to be the kindest word they could use for what they experienced. After a week of climbing, the four were abducted but rebel militants who were desperate to avoid the attention of the Kyrgyz army. To do so, the four were forced to hike through grueling terrain during the night. They were barely given food or water, catapulting them into an even more extreme fight for survival, until one day, that fight for survival became a fight for freedom. Listen now to how the four came face to face with extreme conditions, violent behavior, terrorist behavior, and making it out alive.
