    Catholic School 1960

This episode is not about faith it's more about the experiences that many people had going to a Catholic School during the 50's and 60's. Talking was sin and had to be given up for lent. There was no rank and file on behavior and all conduct was treated as if it continued you would be in prison by the age of 18. Listen in as I describe some my own personal trauma as a Catholic School student during the 60's and how I worked for a lifetime to realize that mistakes were okay and how I had to change my perception of God. The Family Table: Are You Kidding?

The Family Table: Are You Kidding?

It never ceases to amaze me how we can believe that an actor/actress on a commercial is really the character he or she portrayed on a sitcom. Watching T.V. many years ago, Roseanne Barr was doing a commercial on about the importance of having dinner at the “family table.” So the commercial flashed back to her and John Goodman on a Roseanne episode sitting at the dinner table engaged in an argument which was supposed to be funny to the viewer. The point of the commercial was that it doesn’t matter what goes on at the family table as long as you have one.

As a kid, we had a family table. It was a war zone. I’m sure that many people can relate to my family table, and I am sick of calling it that, too. (What is this new term –family table- anyway?)In my house, the family table was more like the family zoo. That table produced more stress, anxiety, and tension and was the stage for more arguments and fights than one could image. That table produced more trauma and truly had an affect on me as an adult. It took some time but I started to recognize what that table was doing to me and my own family. Listen in as I tell my story of the trauma of the family table.

    The Bath House

    The Bath House

We wake up to PTSD as adults but often we are not aware of where it all started. My first experience with trauma came 60 years ago when I was 6. My father took me to Asbury Park NJ for some swimming and fun. Not quite, I was left in the bath house of the pool for hours as my dad told me to wait there. I didn't know what happened but later I discovered that he was drinking in the lounge. Many more things happened that day that you will hear about in the podcast. Childhood trauma can produce a wealth of adult conflict and misery. Depression and anxiety are just two conditions that I dealt with as an adult. But it all started at The Bath House in Asbury Park.
