Cathlene’s story is one of strength, perseverance, and purpose, and her message is one every woman, mother, and entrepreneur needs to hear. From her early days as a stay-at-home mom of four to becoming the founder of Hopefull Handbags Global, Cathlene shares her transformational journey of turning pain into purpose. With warmth and wisdom, she opens up about what it was like to navigate the emotional and physical demands of full-time motherhood, juggling multiple roles, and building a mission-driven organization from her kitchen table while homeschooling her children. As a grandmother of three, she reflects on the evolution of motherhood and how those long, exhausting days of raising children became the foundation for a legacy of hope. Cathlene brings to light the often unseen work of stay-at-home moms and how that emotional labor carries a different weight than a traditional job. She and Charisse candidly discuss the difference between working outside the home and the never-ending responsibilities inside it—especially for moms who also carry the title of entrepreneur. Together, they normalize the messy, beautiful, exhausting, and meaningful path of building a business while raising a family. But Cathlene’s story doesn’t stop there. She shares the moving story behind the founding of Hopefull Handbags Global, an international nonprofit that provides support, resources, and empowerment for survivors of domestic abuse and their children. What started as a simple idea—collecting gently used handbags filled with essentials and notes of encouragement—has evolved into a global movement offering safety, health, wellness, and long-term financial sustainability to survivors in the U.S., Ireland, Canada, the Caribbean, Kenya, and beyond. Cathlene also discusses her bestselling book The 30-Day Self-Perception Makeover, which she wrote to help women transform the way they view themselves from the inside out. This book, now used in her nonprofit programs, helps survivors rebuild their self-worth and reclaim their identity after trauma. She powerfully reminds listeners that every transformation starts within—and that lasting change begins with how we think and speak to ourselves. This episode is packed with inspiration, wisdom, and practical encouragement. Cathlene gives real advice for anyone considering starting a nonprofit, emphasizing that you don’t have to wait to have it all figured out—just start. What I Learned From My Marathon Bucket List with Charisse Walker

Hello, Unbreakable Mompreneurs! It’s Charisse Walker, and today I’m sharing a personal milestone that has shaped my mindset and strengthened my resolve in ways I never imagined—my marathon journey. This wasn’t just about running 26.2 miles; it was about proving to myself that I could accomplish something hard, something that tested my physical endurance, mental strength, and unbreakable spirit. As a real estate expert, lender, entrepreneur, coach, speaker, and author of Flipping the Iceberg, I juggle a lot. But this challenge was for me—a reminder that no matter how impossible something feels, with persistence and belief, it can be done. The Decision to RunA year ago, I set a goal: to run a marathon before turning 50. This wasn’t an easy decision—I had undergone multiple hip surgeries, dealt with chronic pain, and recovered from a hysterectomy that required six weeks of strict bed rest. But I was determined. So I started small—running for 30 seconds, walking for a minute and a half, and gradually increasing my endurance. Despite the setbacks, the injuries, and the challenges, I kept going. Overcoming SetbacksIn the months leading up to the race, my training hit a major roadblock. I suffered a stress fracture in my tibia, nearly breaking both legs. This put me out of training for three months. When I tried to start running again, the pain was unbearable. My physical therapist advised against training, saying, "Just go run it."I thought he was crazy. But deep down, I knew: I had to at least try. Race Day: A Battle of Strength and WillpowerI chose Big Cottonwood Marathon—one of the toughest courses, with steep downhill elevations that test even seasoned runners. The night before, I couldn’t find a decent place to sleep. My hotel bed was rock hard, and at the last minute, I switched to another hotel, getting barely any rest before waking up at 4 AM.At the starting line, I was unprepared. The most I had ever run in training was four miles—not exactly marathon-ready. On top of that, I lost my fuel packs (goo pouches) early on, meaning I had no proper fuel for nearly 11 miles. The first four miles felt great. But by mile 13, I hit the reality of my untrained body. Then came mile 18—the wall. My body started shutting down, and my mental battle began.By mile 20, I was completely drained. I called my husband, who brought emergency supplies, while my kids cheered from the car. They were my fuel.At mile 26, I dug deep, sprinting across the finish line. I did it. The Lesson: You Are UnbreakableThis race wasn’t about speed. It was about proving that I could push past limits, silence doubts, and finish what I started. Just like in business, motherhood, and life—when it gets hard, you don’t quit. You adjust, you push through, and you finish. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, questioning whether you should continue, remember: You are unbreakable. If you need help navigating life’s challenges, whether in real estate, business, or relationships, reach out. Flipping Business: Learning the Exit Strategy, and Real Life Mom Life Struggles with Stephanie Hayes

On this episode of Unbreakable Mompreneurs, host Charisse Walker sits down with business strategist Stephanie Hayes to tackle a topic that many entrepreneurs overlook—how to successfully exit a business. While most business owners focus on growth and revenue, few consider how to create long-term value and a profitable exit strategy. Whether you're just starting out or have been in business for years, Stephanie shares why it’s never too early to think about how your business can become an asset rather than just an income source. As the founder of Assets to Exits, Stephanie specializes in helping business owners shift their mindset from revenue generation to wealth creation. She explains how every business—yes, even personal brands and service-based businesses—can be positioned for sale with the right approach. Too often, entrepreneurs simply shut down their businesses when they’re ready to move on, leaving money on the table. Stephanie reveals how to build and recognize assets within your business, neutralize a personal brand for sale, and take intentional steps to increase your business’s value. She breaks down how to plan an exit that aligns with your financial and lifestyle goals, whether that means selling outright, taking an operational exit, or turning your business into a legacy for your children. Motherhood, Vulnerability, and the Reality of Balancing It AllBeyond the business talk, Charisse and Stephanie dive into the raw realities of balancing business ownership with motherhood. Both women open up about the unique struggles of being employees and entrepreneurs while raising children, sharing their personal experiences of sacrifice, regret, and resilience. Stephanie reflects on how, in the early years, she was so focused on work that she missed out on valuable moments with her children—time she can never get back. Charisse relates, sharing her own experience of being a working mom after years of being stretched too thin. They discuss the difficult balance between providing for a family and being present, and how, as moms, we often feel guilt no matter which path we take. At the core of this conversation is a powerful reminder that success isn’t just about business—it’s about building a life that allows you to be present for what truly matters. Whether it’s protecting time with your kids, being honest about your struggles, or learning how to exit a business on your own terms, this episode is filled with insights that will empower you to take charge of both your business and family life. Key Takeaways from This Episode: ✅ How to build a sellable business—even as a personal brand ✅ The biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make when exiting ✅ Shifting from income to asset-building for long-term wealth ✅ How to plan for an exit that aligns with your goals ✅ The power of vulnerability in motherhood and business ✅ Balancing business, family, and protecting your time ✅ The importance of recognizing and advocating for your child’s unique needs ✅ How thinking ahead can create a financial legacy for your childrenIf you’re a mompreneur looking to build a business that not only generates income but also creates lasting value—without sacrificing what matters most—this episode is a must-listen!
