    Seven Rounds of IVF, Pregnant with Twins, Loss and Twice in NICU with Aideen | S3E58

    In this powerful episode, Aideen (@ivfmumblings) shares her honest story of infertility, IVF, NICU, and loss. After seven rounds of IVF, she became pregnant with twins, but at 30 weeks she went into premature labour, was put under general anaesthetic for an emergency section, and lost one of her babies to suspected NEC. Only four months later, she conceived naturally and found herself back in NICU at 36 weeks. Now pregnant again, Aideen opens up about how she’s advocating for herself this time, the importance of mental health support after NICU, and what she wishes she’d known then.     Facing fertility difficulties and miscarriage with author of RoboBabies, Laura Gallagher | S3E57

    Today’s guest, Laura Gallagher, author of the children’s book “RoboBabies” experienced fertility difficulties and miscarriages. Laura’s first son was born via IVF, and went onto have multiple pregnancy losses. In this episode, Laura talks how she handled her son witnessing her going through this, and all the tricky emotions she faced, and why shame and embarrassment were two that she struggled with the most.     Health anxiety & the divide between NICU and home with a sibling - Enya | S3E56

    If you’re struggling to handle the divide between NICU and your other children at home – know that you are definitely not alone. Today’s guest Enya had her toddler Saoirse at home while she was in NICU with her 28 weeker, Roisin, and she shares in today’s episode about how she handled feeling split between the two. Additionally, her health anxiety began to worsen after NICU as well, and we talk about how she manages that with all the medical follow ups that come after a stay in NICU.     Attachment, Bonding and EMDR after NICU trauma with Clinical Psychologist Dr. Mara Tesler Stein | S3E55

    Dr. Mara Tesler Stein is a fellow Clinical Psychologist with experience of being in NICU and a wealth of knowledge gained through research – so we knew that a conversation with her would be incredibly valuable.     Dear NICU Mama: Therapeutic writing, finding meaning after trauma and NICU’s impact on maternal mental health | S3E54

    Ashley and Aisha from Dear NICU Mama join us in today’s episode, and share all about the impact of NICU on mental health, finding meaning again after trauma, and the “letters of hope” that Dear NICU Mama asks NICU mums to write. Each month, the non-profit provides a different prompt for NICU mums to write to others about their experience, and share a hopeful message with them. Of course, these messages make sure to help other NICU mums feel less alone and so many people say how therapeutic they found writing these letters.     Neonatal Leave & Pay Act, Prem Aware schools and how employers can support NICU parents with Catriona from The Smallest Things | S3E53

    Last year, we were joined by Catriona Ogilvy, founder of The Smallest Things charity, who talked all about why her NICU experiences and background as a children’s Occupational Therapist led to her creating the charity. Since that conversation, lots of campaigns the charity has been involved with have come to fruition – so it was time to sit down with Catriona again and catch up on what’s been going on. From the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act, to their Employer with Heart Charter, schools becoming prem aware, there’s lots to talk about!     From premature birth to giving back through starting a charity: Rachael from Ickle Pickles | S3E52

    Rachael and her husband, Andy, were thrown into the world of neonatal care 17 years ago when Rachael unexpectedly went into labour and their son, Charlie, was born at 28 weeks. This experience impacted the whole family immensely, and their determination to give back led to them starting Ickle Pickles children’s charity – a charity that raises funds for life-saving equipment that neonatal units desperately need.     Birth trauma & healing through EMDR with Bethan from Advocates and Angels | S3E51

    When you feel that you’re functioning highly despite experiencing anxiety, depression and PTSD, it can often be hard to reach out for help and support or even to realise that anything’s wrong. After Bethan and her family experienced trauma on top of trauma, including losing her little girl aged only four-years-old, she reached a point where she realised she couldn’t carry on with the way she was feeling – both mentally and physically. At this point, she reached out to me for EMDR therapy where we worked together to help her through these feelings.
