Helping Pets and People In Times of Crisis with Dr Katie Luke

Veterinary Vitals Podcast with Dena Goldstein is a hidden gem I just found. I love how her passion for people and their pets comes through in every episode. The acknowledgment of the need for help with people who consider their animals a member of the family during a crisis is a leap in the right direction. The bond between animal and their human has exponential mental and physical benefits that need resources in times of trial. Dena’s shows shed a light to areas we can focus efforts and resources ensuring the whole family can be cared for.
Insightful and educational

This podcast has a great hostess in Dena, who has a terrific rapport with her guests and keeps them talking. She doesn't shy away from discussing serious issues, such as the societal barriers for women and minorities seeking a career in the veterinary field. This is worth following!
Great for understanding trends in the profession

Veterinary Vitals looks at where the practice of veterinary medicine in Texas stands now, and how it is evolving in response to cultural and demographic shifts. Topics range from economic and social barriers that women and people of color have traditionally faced in becoming veterinarians, the difficulty of recruiting vets to rural areas, and how practices have quickly pivoted to keep clients and staff safe during the pandemic. The guests are subject matter experts (I always learn so much!) and the host, Dena Goldstein, is deft at asking just the right questions – and then getting out of the way – to allow DVMs to tell their stories. As a layperson accessing care for my own pets, I find the podcast great for helping me better understand what I’m seeing at the clinic. As an animal welfare advocate, I appreciate how the show sheds light on the larger forces shaping the profession.
