S2.06 | Bone Stress Injuries, RED-S, and Why Running Isn't Enough with Bethany Brausen, DPT

S2.06 | Bone Stress Injuries, RED-S, and Why Running Isn't Enough with Bethany Brausen, DPT (Episode 105 overall) In this episode, hosts Kailee and Jacob sit down with Bethany Brausen, DPT, a physical therapist and run coach specializing in runners and pelvic health. Bethany ran Division I cross country at the University of South Dakota, where she experienced a recurring cycle of bone stress injuries tied to under fueling — an experience that led her to start Tempo Physical Therapy and Running Performance. They dig into how bone stress injuries develop, why shin splints can be an early warning sign rather than something to run through, and how under fueling can lead to RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport) — a hormonal chain reaction that puts bone health at risk. Bethany also explains why losing a period should never be dismissed as normal or "fixed" with birth control, and why resistance training may matter more for bone strength than running itself. S2.05 | Listener Q&A: Sleep, Fueling, and Why Your Long Run Kills Your Libido

S2.05 | Listener Q&A: Sleep, Fueling, and Why Your Long Run Kills Your Libido(Episode 104 overall) In this episode of the We Get 2 Do This Podcast, hosts Kailee and Jacob answer a rapid-fire round of listener and client questions they've been saving up. They start with an anatomy deep dive into which shin muscles attach halfway up the leg (shoutout to the underrated fibularis brevis and tertius), then get into their honest, sometimes blunt take on wearables — why an Oura Ring or Garmin can be useful for spotting trends, but easy to over-index on day to day. From there, the conversation turns to recovery: Kailee and Jacob lay out their real hierarchy — sleep and nutrition first, recovery tools like sauna, cryotherapy, and Normatec second — and push back on runners who reach for hacks instead of fixing the fundamentals. They share their go-to protein powder recommendations for listeners moving away from whey, then dig into how long runs affect hormones like cortisol, testosterone, ghrelin, and leptin, using appetite and libido as practical signals for whether the body feels safe or stressed. They close out by talking calorie intake, admitting their own numbers vary day to day, and reminding runners that most are likely under fueling. The episode also includes an announcement for their first-ever We Get 2 Do This run retreat: a trail-running trip to Sedona, AZ, January 14–18, 2027 (MLK weekend), featuring community acupuncture, strength and mobility sessions, and a group Airbnb with red rock views. S2.04 | Intentional at Every Level: Joe Hein's Approach to Business and Body

S2.04 | Intentional at Every Level: Joe Hein's Approach to Business and Body (Episode 103 overall) In this episode of the We Get 2 Do This Podcast, host Kailee sits down with Joe Hein, founder and owner of Integrative Massage in Edina and Minnetonka, to talk about building a values-driven massage therapy business. Joe shares his winding path into the field — from a three-sport high school athlete influenced by his athletic trainer, to a business management undergrad, to eventually finding his calling in massage therapy rather than physical therapy or chiropractic school. Joe traces Integrative Massage's growth from a solo practice in 2016 to a team of eight independent-contractor practitioners across two locations, describing the mindset shift from "how many clients can I personally treat" to empowering a team to multiply the clinic's impact. He talks candidly about balancing entrepreneurship with faith and family life — including a two-year stint living in Spain for missions work with his wife Carly and their kids — and why he's never had an "exit strategy," since he genuinely loves the hands-on work. A big theme of the conversation is culture: Joe describes Integrative Massage's internal "playbook," annual one-on-one "pulse checks," and weekly "pulse texts" used to keep the team aligned around pillars like "unreasonable hospitality" (a nod to Chick-fil-A-style service) and getting genuinely excited about clients' progress. The conversation closes with practical advice for runners and endurance athletes on timing massage around races (a session 7–9 days out, a follow-up 3 days before, and waiting 24–48 hours post-race), plus Joe's personal "We Get To Do This" moments — an evening with his team and watching his son turn five. S2.03c | Coaching Call: Chisago Lakes 70.3 Race Recap + Kicking Off the Twin Cities Marathon Build (Pt. 3)

S2.03c | Coaching Call: Chisago Lakes 70.3 Race Recap + Kicking Off the Twin Cities Marathon Build (Pt. 3) w/Coach Matt Welch (Episode 102c overall) The finale of this coaching mini-series! Recorded right after finishing Chisago Lakes 70.3, and it did not disappoint :-) I break down the whole race with my coach Matt Welch: a swim that went better than expected (once I stopped panicking about sighting), getting absolutely humbled by how fast people move through open water, a brutal bike leg that PR'd every distance I've ever ridden, and then a half marathon run through 106-degree heat index that turned into a full-on survival exercise — ice bandanas, sponge baths, and all. We get into fueling in detail too: what worked, what didn't, why I ended up craving straight water over anything else, and what Matt thinks I should change heading into Javelina. We also spend real time on the mental side — the self-talk and mindset that got me through the toughest stretches, and some tools Matt uses with his own athletes to manage hard moments in a race. And then we shift into what's next: the Twin Cities Marathon build officially kicks off, including a pretty wild plan to drop lifting down to once a week and chase some of the highest mileage weeks I've ever run. Thanks for following along with this one, y'all — TCM build content coming soon. Matt Welch Instagram TAG Instagram Matt Welch Strava TAG Website Follow us on Instagram: @weget2dothispod Email us questions/comments at: weget2dothis@gmail.com Check out the video portion of our show at: youtube.com/@weget2dothis New home base: weget2dothis.com For business info: Dr. Kailee Acupuncture WebsiteOak Endurance Website LASTLY -> If you enjoyed the show, please like, comment, subscribe and consider giving us a 5-star review wherever you listen or watch :-) We Get 2 Do This!

S2.03b | Coaching Call: Building Toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon (Pt. 2)

S2.03b | Coaching Call: Building Toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon (Pt. 2) w/Coach Matt Welch (Episode 102b overall) Part 2 of a two-part coaching check-in with my coach Matt Welch, recorded as part of the build toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon — and this might be the most candid and unfiltered we've ever been on here. We open with me fumbling through my own Strava account while Matt casually mentions the 17-mile run he knocked out that morning. From there I walk through the last eight weeks of my life — bachelor party, wedding, honeymoon, my buddy's bachelor party and wedding, and Grandma's Marathon — and how all of it collided with training. We get into my experience pacing my wife Kailee at Grandma's, including a bathroom situation mid-race that I did not see coming, and a deep dive into fueling and caffeine strategy that goes further than I expected. Then we shift fully into the Chisago Lakes 70.3 build — swim scheduling, brick workouts, bike positioning, heat training, and how we're threading marathon prep for Twin Cities around the triathlon without blowing up either one. We close it out on coaching philosophy — boundaries, burnout, and why answering every text isn't actually good coaching. Perfect timing... Coach Jacob is about to start the triathlon today... lets see how he does.

S2.03a | Coaching Call: Building Toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon (Pt. 1) w/Coach Matt Welch

S2.03a | Coaching Call: Building Toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon (Pt. 1) w/Coach Matt Welch (Episode 102a overall) Part 1 of a two-part coaching check-in with my coach Matt Welch, recorded as part of the build toward Chisago Lakes 70.3 Triathlon. This one covers a lot of ground. We open with life updates — I got married since we last talked, so we get into the whirlwind of bachelor party, wedding, and honeymoon back to back to back (and a classic "something I ate or drank in Mexico" stomach story). Then Matt tells one of the best race stories I've ever heard: he and a buddy rode an untested tandem bike over 60 miles to a race on Orcas Island, snapped the chain in a downpour, ended up hitchhiking with strangers, rolled into camp at 10:15pm... and then won the 50K the next morning. From there we dig into real training talk: uphill running mechanics, VO2 max, why treadmills get an unfair reputation, and a tangent about being "too healed" to suffer properly in a race. And I close it out laying out where my head's at heading into the summer — Grandma's Marathon, Chisago Lakes 70.3, Twin Cities in the fall, and my first ultra at Javelina. Part 2 (S2.03b) drops later this week and gets more specific into the tri build. S2.02 | "Why Not Me?" with Emily Kellogg, DPT

S2.02 | "Why Not Me?" with Emily Kellogg (Episode 101 overall) This week we sit down with Emily Kellogg — physical therapist, runner, and stage four breast cancer thriver — for her very first ever podcast appearance. Diagnosed at just 27 years old, Emily learned her cancer had already spread to her liver. What followed was 16 rounds of chemo, surgery, and radiation, all while she kept working full patient caseloads and showing up to 6am run club before her infusions. In this episode, we cover: What a stage four diagnosis actually means, and why "no evidence of disease" isn't the same as being curedHow her Charlotte running community carried her through treatment, from day oneRunning a half marathon the day after her last round of chemo (and the half marathon she ran the week she was diagnosed)Why she journals every hard day and every good one — and how that habit completely reframed her outlookTraining for the New York City Marathon with no time goal, just the goal of crossing the finish lineHer mindset shift from "why me" to "why not me"What she wishes every woman knew about breast cancer, self-exams, and staying active before you ever need to Follow Emily: @emilyekellogg on Instagram and TikTok, and read her Substack, Thursday Thoughts.
