Where We Gather: Scripture Insights from Modern Day Disciples

Audra Elkington | Relatable Scripture Study

The Where We Gather podcast was created to help you draw closer to the Savior through personal scripture study, meaningful conversations and simple acts of faith. Audra Elkington is a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The stresses of life and sincere questions piled up and she spent 6 years away from the church. Since returning to full participation in her mid-30s, Audra has rebuilt her testimony from the ground up. She stripped away all the questions and cultural concerns and started with learning about and nurturing a relationship with the Savior.  Audra has a deep desire to help others learn more about Jesus Christ and His doctrine. The gospel, as laid out by the Savior, is for everyone who is willing to turn toward Him and follow His teachings. This is the core of the gathering of Israel. The Savior is where we gather. Audra has been featured in LDS Living's This is the Gospel, Time Out for Women and has been a guest on several podcasts. She has also taught at FSY, Online Institute, and SALT Gathering. Audra is a graduate of Brigham Young University. 15 - Finding Jesus in the Middle of Grief w/Rhonda Steed

When life feels heavy and heaven feels silent, how do we still believe? In this tender conversation, I sit down with my friend Rhonda Steed to talk about grief, prayer, and the quiet ways the Savior shows up when we need Him most. Rhonda shares her powerful experience of feeling Christ beside her in the temple during a time of deep loss and how that moment changed the way she prays, loves, and trusts Him today. Whether you’re in a season of sorrow or simply searching for peace, this episode will remind you that Jesus is always near, especially in the middle of the mud. You'll learn: How to feel the Savior’s presence in your pain — and recognize His comfort even when your circumstances don’t change.A new way to think about prayer — moving from “shopping list prayers” to heartfelt conversations that align our will with God’s.Why faith is found in the returning — how small, consistent acts of devotion (even one verse or one prayer) keep us close to Christ through every season. If this episode resonated with you, consider leaving a written review or sharing it with a friend who is walking through a season of grief. 11 - The simplest way to grow closer to Christ

You know how sometimes you feel disconnected from the Savior and you're not sure why? Yeah, me too. That's exactly what we're talking about today. I've been restudying President Henry B. Eyring's April 2025 General Conference talk "Draw Near Unto Me." He uses a simple friendship analogy that just makes so much sense - of course that's how we connect with Christ! We do the same things we'd do with a good friend we're separated from. President Eyring shares a simple 3 step process you can easily apply to your life today so you can deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ. We're also discussing why the "this is just who I am" mentality can be such a slippery slope. Yes, you are a child of God and He doesn't make mistakes. But also, there is so much more to you and that's exciting! Not only will this episode help you prepare your heart for the October 2025 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it's an opportunity to combine lessons from our First Presidency with personal scripture study.  For a list of all the references mentioned in each episode, sign up for the Where We Gather Footnotes newsletter.  It goes out the night before episodes go live, giving you time to study beforehand. (You know, kind of how we try to study ahead of time so we can have good Come Follow Me discussions on Sundays?) 9 - Choose to Stay with the Savior w/Starr Anderson

This week, I'm sitting down with Starr Anderson, the woman who taught me to love studying the scriptures. Starr shares some personal experiences that will change how you approach your own scripture study and relationship with the Savior. Through tears and testimony, Starr opens up about a pivotal moment in college when her father left the faith, and how that experience became a catalyst for her lifelong commitment to finding the Savior in the scriptures.  She takes us through her favorite scripture stories from the Book of Ether in the Book of Mormon and John chapters 20-21 in the New Testament. Listen in and learn more about these 3 takeaways: Stay where you expect the Savior to beThe Lord knows exactly what to do with your 'things' that you offerConsistency is so much more important than perfection when it comes to scripture studyIf you sometimes struggles with mundane scripture study, feel like you're missing out, or just need encouragement to keep showing up, this episode is for you.  I know it's a longer episode but, trust me, it will be time well spent. Plus, you'll hear some of Starr's best advice for teaching your kids how to trust in the Lord. Are you enjoying Where We Gather? I would so appreciate it if you would leave a rating and review. I try not to worry about algorithms but reviews really do help this podcast be found by the woman who could use these messages.  If you're interested in receiving a list of all the resources mentioned in these episodes, be sure to sign up for the bi-monthly newsletter! I'll be sending out a list of links and sharing some additional news and insights. Click here to get on the email list.  Thanks so much for being here.
