The Future of Food with Udi Lazimy

In this episode I sit down with my friend, Founder, CEO, and global leader in sustainable food, agriculture & water systems, Udi Lazimy. We jump into his journey from his multicultural upbringing in Madison, Wisconsin, to becoming enamored with the wildness of the western US, his activism being awakened in the national parks of Montana, working with indigenous communities in Alaska, to his first job at a national forest organization in Colorado, exploring the world of agriculture in Seattle, taking a 2-year meditation, yoga, and cycling hiatus in Mexico and Europe, getting a Green MBA & entering the tech world in San Francisco, and finally started his own consulting business & FUDI Protein, which he operates from Mexico City. Udi has worked in forest and public land conservation, sustainability, food advocacy, and has even been called the Indiana Jones of plants. Listen to hear how he plans to replace as much of the unsustainable protein market as possible, as well as how he ended up performing reiki on Woody Harrelson in the woods. Resources & sites mentioned in this episode: Green Corps: The training program for environmental organizing Udi joined after college. American Lands Alliance: The national forest activism organization where Udi got his first job. Eat Just: The food tech company formerly known as Hampton Creek focused on developing sustainable, plant-based alternatives to animal products where Udi worked as Head Of Sustainability & Sourcing. Regrained: Udi’s friend’s food upcycling technology and ingredient platform, which includes Upcycled Food Lab, where he creates food products from spent barley. FUDI Protein & FUDI Impact Partners: Udi’s website where you can find all his different businesses and see the video of the mung bean protein that looks just like eggs! What Parts of Yourself Have You Hidden Away? My Voice Journey

In today’s solo episode, I recount the journey of recovering my voice—how I used to sing as a child and suddenly stopped, the emotional moment when I heard myself sing again, and how I realized I had to reintegrate the practice back into my life in order to truly reconnect with the healing power of my voice. I also dive into the yogic paths, why singing mantras has become so important to me, and how healing and reconnecting with my own voice has been medicine for my work as a storyteller; one I’m now ready to share with others. Corrections to this episode: While some sources say three, others say there are four yogic paths, or paths to self-realization: Karma (path of action), Jnana/Gyana (path of knowledge/wisdom), Bhakti (path of devotion), and Raja (“royal” path, path of self discipline; which is essentially the combination of all three previous paths). Resources & sites mentioned in this episode: Listen to my episode with my voice coach & mantra teacher, Caro Pérez My yoga home in Mexico City, Atma Yoga & Energy Center A picture of the cenote where I really heard myself sing again for the first time Yoga Kul, a yoga studio in the south of Mexico City where I’ve attended kirtans Eddy Colibri, my very talented musician friend Ramon Basanta, my meditation teacher The episode of the podcast where I lead you in a loving light body scan (around the 13:00 minute mark) Jagadambika, one of my Bhakti teachers  A picture of Gita, the beautiful harmonium that found me The Bhagavad Gita, one of my favorite books of all time My mantra playlist on YouTube Music
